Supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young people and young adults with additional support needs and isolated older people.
The project aims to support the mental health and wellbeing of young people and young adults with disabilities and additional support needs and local members of the community, particularly older people who have experienced isolation during Covid19.
The initiative will support young people and young adults with additional support needs to develop emotional resilience and coping strategies through wellbeing activities. The project will deliver a series of focused positive mental health and mindfulness workshops.
Project members will be supported to plan and develop a regular Wellbeing Café for parents/carers and people within the local community, particularly local older people who have been isolated during Covid19. Delivering community activities for others will promote positive self-esteem and skills for life development, with a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing.
Before lockdown local older people in the area would regularly come along to the community activities organised by the Wider World Project young adults (community cafes, social activities, etc.), to get out of the house and meet with other people. Many people still feel isolated through Covid19, with limited social opportunities with others.
Funding support will enable the project to rebuild and re-establish regular community activities
The aim will be to build relationships, reduce isolation and make small steps towards taking part in activities in the community again. To build confidence to engage again with others, feel connected, make and rekindle friendships.
The project aims to deliver regular Community Wellbeing Cafes, providing a safe, friendly, welcoming space where people can take part in social activities and enjoy a chat, cuppa and light refreshments together. Money raised will fund activities, room hire and refreshments, enabling the project to re-build community engagement.
The Wider World Project is COVID SECURE and all activities will follow covid19 guidance.
Your support would enable us to provide regular ‘positive' activities and an opportunity to support, share and celebrate achievements.
Your support will have a positive impact on the emotional wellbeing of our members, their families and the local community - reducing feelings of isolation and creating a positive focus during COVID19 recovery and support the Wider World Project to re-build community links and delivery.
