Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our short dance film Let Them Eat Cake! Here you will find more information about the project, the team, the mood board  and above all the reason why we need You. If you think you need more information, contact us and we will be happy to clarify any doubt.

THE PROJECT

Let Them Eat Cake! is a dance film on girl empowerment, where three teenagers rebel against how society dictates how they see themselves. In Let Them Eat Cake! the three characters transform from being "perfect girls" to agents of change, by embracing who they really are. It will be directed by the choreographer and filmmaker Avatâra Ayuso, whose latest film The Protocol  has received awards all around the world.

The film (of about 10min of length) will be rehearsed in London, shot in Birmingham in January 2022, and post-production in January-February. It will be premiered in March 2022 in our Women in Dance Leadership award ceremony and distributed online and schools along the year.

Here below you can find the part of the mood board created by the filmmaker Avatâra. These images have been shared with the creative team as a stimulus to create the storyboard, costumes, music and choreography

WHY SHOULD YOU SUPPORT THE PROJECT?

  • Because we all know a girl that deserves to be listened to in our family or community.
  • Because this film will be a platform for young people to be heard and empowered.
  • Because research & statistics show there is a need to tackle this issue:

       - 61% of girls and young women in the UK experience poor body image, leading to other potential health risks and less assertive attitudes. Body dissatisfaction and a pressure to be thin have been linked to depressive symptoms.

      - 54% of girls said that images on social media have caused them to worry in relation to their body image as it is difficult to achieve the "ideal"

  • Because young people deserved to be supported by us , adults, and help them grow with a healthy mindset, loving themselves.
  • Because you will make possible the creation of a film with high standards and high quality equipment accessible to young people and young audiences.
  • Because you believe in the power of art to change lives!

WHAT EXACTLY WOULD YOU BE FUNDING?

The project will be delivered by our charity AWA DANCE. We already have half of the funds thanks to The Space and Arts Council England. We now need to find the other half to make the project a reality with the high standards we expect from all our work. Your support means you would be directly funding the delivery of the film:

  • 5% on Covid-19 protection - following Government Guidelines and safeguarding and chaperone for our protagonists (under 16)
  • 15-20% on Music rights and Sound Design
  • 15-20% on Costume design and costume making
  • 40% on Pre-Production - Online Rehearsal, Planning Sessions, Council Negotiation, child licence performances and Location Booking.
  • 10-15% on Post Production - Editing, Coding and Platform Distribution
  • 5% on Educational resource pack on the film for schools

WHO WOULD YOU BE SUPPORTING? WHO IS THE CREATIVE TEAM?
