Legal review of stag hunting in the UK

Aim

Help us fund a legal review of stag hunting in the UK – inform our campaigning and actions, so we can end the last three stag hunts forever.

🦌 STAG HUNTING IS STILL HAPPENING IN THE UK 🦌

But it’s holding on by its fingertips…

Our native wildlife was once terrorised by hundreds of individual staghound packs, scattered across the UK.

Today, only three remain.

They’re huddled together in one final stronghold - the South West. Using hounds to hunt stags to the point of collapse across two spring and autumn seasons, on Exmoor and the Quantocks.

Action Against Staghunting exists for one purpose: to stamp out these last remaining hunts, ending stag hunting in the UK forever.

To do it, we need to hit them where they’re weakest – their very shady interpretation of the legal exemptions, which have allowed them to continue abusing wildlife and indulging their blood lust long after the ban should have stopped them.

HOW YOU CAN HELP US

We’re fundraising to commission a full legal review of stag hunting in the UK.

This will allow us to understand where they’re weakest, and where they’ve run into legal trouble in the past.

This knowledge will guide our whole campaign, as we raise public and political awareness of the fact they’re still out there, hunting as they always have and meeting little resistance.

That all changes now – but we do need your help to access this legal assistance.

The legal review will cover:

• Past cases that have successfully prosecuted stag hunts.
• Legal precedent that these cases have established.
• Landowner rights and responsibilities.
• The fine detail of the exemptions they’re hunting under - in particular the “Research and Observation” exemption, and how we can challenge this.
• Other offences that we can watch for and report during hunts.

We will be working with well respected lawyers who are exceptionally experienced within the relevant fields.

We understand that times are financially hard for many at the moment. But so many people are horrified by the brutal reality of stag hunting, if you’re able to donate, even a very small amount, we’re confident that we’ll reach our target.

The stag packs have money and lawyers behind them - we’re relying on people power to meet them head on.
