Help LURA launch the Gryphon II to 43,000 feet from British soil and break the UKRA Amateur Altitude Record!

by Sky Taylor in Leeds, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom

 New stretch target

We are the Leeds University Rocketry Association (LURA). LURA is a student-led rocketry team based at the University of Leeds that designs, builds, and flies sub-orbital rockets. We focus on providing students of all disciplines the opportunity to learn about rocketry, and the laws, regulations, and logistics involved in rocket launches. This is much beyond what is taught on their degree courses. Everything we do at LURA is united through a core purpose: Preparing the Mars Generation. That is, the engineers, astronauts, and technicians that will soon make human life interplanetary.

LURA aims to be the UK’s leading student-led rocketry team and provide a space for students to design, build, and fly their own rockets, payloads, and engines. We envision a team that will compete, drive innovation within rocketry, and continue to inspire students to pursue careers in the space industry. Our current mission is to break the UKRA Amateur Rocketry Altitude Record using our flagship rocket, the Gryphon II (G2), which is a 3 metre carbon fibre rocket that integrates advanced systems and novel designs, making it LURA's most complex rocket yet. G2 recently flew supersonic to 20,000 feet above ground level (AGL) at the Fairlie Moor Rocket Site (FMRS) in Scotland.

Despite the proven value of student-led engineering initiatives such as LURA, they are becoming increasingly difficult to sustain. We have dedicated time and resources into this project, but we need your help to launch it to its high-altitude potential. Your support will directly fund the critical components for G2 including the avionics, recovery system, aerostructures, flight dynamics, as well as the complicated logistics involved with launching G2 to 43,000 feet from British soil.
