WHO ARE WE
Leeds Scuba Diving is a branch of the British Sub Aqua Club – the UK’s national governing body on the sport of scuba diving. We are fully staffed by volunteers and offer training and exploratory diving trips to members aged from 14 to over 70. The branch still retains members who learnt to dive with us some years ago and have gone on to successfully complete university courses and move onto to careers in the field. Current members of the branch are also members of “Seasearch” – undertaking Citizen Science surveys of the underwater environment, “Ghostfishing” – carrying out activities to remove fishing nets and other abandoned fishing gear from the sea and the “Nautical Archaeology Society” – supporting English Heritage through voluntary surveying of protected wreck sites around the UK.
Our existing club members include people with a variety of needs and disabilities and we value these individuals are part of our club. We consider ourselves to be inclusive and supportive and just want to be able to share the amazing underwater world with other members of our community.
WHAT DO WE NEED
During the COVID pandemic we were unable to meet up due to the Governments lock down restrictions and now, as we return to our sport, we are faced with a large bill for the servicing and repair of essential equipment, including our compressor which provides essential clean breathing air for our diving activities both in the pool and in open water.
WHAT WILL WE DO
Achieving our fundraising target will allow us to continue to train members of the community in diving and support new members by providing equipment which they can hire from the branch at a subsidised cost.
We will also be able to offer wider community activities, including offering try dive opportunities to local scouting and young persons groups, veterans groups and other established groups within the community to provide access to a new activity.
We have previously offered try dive evenings to groups of visually impaired young people, local cadets and other young people groups. We would like to be able to continue with this and also expand this to support our local community and promote healthy seas and conservation of the natural resources of the UK’s coastline.
We will be able to support divers with open water diving activities, both for training and enjoyment and diving with a purpose for conservation efforts, underwater litter picking, marine life appreciation

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!

4. If you want to run your own fundraiser to support us, maybe a sponsored activity or similar, use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
