I'm Stuart Armstrong, a film director and screenwriter from Cumbria.
My last short film Meat Raffle (2025) was shot locally, praised by Sir Ian McKellen and is now available to stream on Channel 4.
Kendal-based producer Alexander Kasper Jessett and I are now raising funds for our new short film Leavers' Day (2026) - a queer coming-of-age story set here in the Lakes in 2003 - and we thought we'd try something different from a traditional crowdfunding campaign, so we're running this prize draw!
There are loads of amazing things to be won (details below), and winners will be drawn at a big fundraising event at The Tithe Barn, Carlisle on Friday 1st May 2026 - but whether you can make it or not, you can still support the project and be in with the chance of winning some great prizes by buying your tickets now!

I'm raising funds to make my next short film Leavers’ Day and continue putting Cumbria on the map in British cinema.
Set in 2003, the story of Leavers' Day follows a 17-year-old trans teen and his ex-boyfriend on their journey to find a stash of 19th century contraband moonshine rumoured to be hidden in a cave in the Lake District.
This is a 15 minute coming-of-age journey where a quest to get pissed up becomes a lesson in growing up. Think Stand By Me meets Call Me By Your Name, but set in Cumbria!
Our trans-led production team has lined up an incredible local cast and crew to make Leavers' Day a reality. We just need the funds to fire the starting gun and get the film into production.
By buying a ticket to this prize draw, you’re directly supporting independent filmmaking in Cumbria and helping us build on the momentum we already have as creatives making work in this corner of the North West.
1 entry is £10 - but tickets get cheaper as you buy more!
Enter as many times as you like - the more entries, the better your chances!
The draw will take place at a special event on Friday 1st May 2026, with winners announced on the night. If you can't make the event but are a winner, we'll email you and get your prize to you ASAP.
Free entry route:
To comply with the Gambling Act 2005, we legally must offer a free entry option. To enter without donating, please send your details on a postcard to The Closet, 85 English St, Carlisle CA3 8LU.
Eligibility:

We need as many people as possible to hear about this before the draw.
If you know someone who’d love to enter and help us out - please send this page to them! Share it, stick it on your story, drop it in the group chat... Every share will help us get this film made!
And if you’re in Cumbria, come down and be part of it. But if you’re not, you can still enter and support the film!
