Leander Swimming Club - Bursary Fund

Aim

We are establishing a bursary fund to support swimmers to join our Academy and Squads who might not otherwise be able to afford to do so.

Who are we?

Leander Swimming Club is a large competitive club in south London. We have our own Academy, where we teach nearly 400 children, many of whom progress into our competitive squads. Our squad swimmers enjoy representing the club in local galas as well as at county, regional, national and international level. 

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are establishing a Bursary Fund with the aim of offering reduced fees to children and young people who would otherwise struggle with the cost of fees for both our Academy and our squads. The aim of the Crowdfunder is to extend the reach of the bursary fund beyond what we can afford to offer from our existing resources, by establishing small grants to support with the costs of competitive swimming (for example, gala fees, travel to galas and equipment costs). 

How we’ll spend the money raised

All of the money raised through this Crowdfunder will go to the bursary fund, which will be administered by the Club Committee. 

If we meet our target of raising £1000, we will be able to provide competition and equipment grants to at least five swimmers, alongside the fee bursaries.  

Community impact

Leander Swimming Club teaches hundreds of children in south west London to swim each year, equipping them with the technical skills to progress into competitive swimming if that is what they want to do, or simply to enjoy swimming throughout their lives. Most of our teachers have swum competitively with the club - teaching with the Academy gives them the opportunity to develop new skills while giving back to the club. 

We want the club to be accessible to the whole community, but we know that swimming can be an expensive sport. That's why we are establishing our Bursary Fund. 

How you can play your part

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!

4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
