Laurence Davies, Philharmonia horn support

Aim

This is a fundraiser to support Laurence Davies horn player during his chemotherapy treatment. All proceeds will go to him directly.

As some of you will be aware Laurence Davies was diagnosed with metastatic bowel cancer in September 2022. Since that time he has undergone treatment through the NHS including major bowel surgery, several doses of ablative radiotherapy and 33 cycles of first and second line chemotherapy. As from 15th December the NHS have started Laurence on palliative 3rd line chemotherapy which he will have to now stay on. They don't have anything else to offer him at this stage.
As a result he is looking to the private sector for additional treatments as they can offer trials and drugs that are unavailable on the NHS. This of course comes with a considerable financial commitment: the initial consultation and blood test alone (to more clearly understand the genetics of his cancer) cost nearly £4,000.

Laurence still feels fit and strong and is continuing to work, playing the horn and running Oldbury Tours, but has to take regular time off for treatment which makes it hard to earn enough to cover the costs of treatment and support his family including his twelve year old son.

First and foremost he would like people to send positive thoughts and prayers but if you can help a little with the family’s financial burden we know it would be hugely appreciated.

We should also add that in the three month gap between radiotherapy and Chemotherapy last summer, Laurence recorded, with his brother Harvey,  the second of his CDs in his recording series ‘Connections’. Connections: The French Horn will be released later this month to partner Connections: The German Horn which he recorded with his mother Helen in 2021. He is planning to record the third CD, The British Horn, in 2026 which will include new works by Tim Jackson, Errollyn Wallen and the late Gareth Wood.
