Opening our craft taproom and bottleshop, showcasing hundreds of the best independent British producers of beer, cider and soft drinks.

What is our vision?

To have an integrated bottleshop and taproom which will span two floors giving you the option to enjoy a drink with us, to take some home or, even better, do both. Our taproom bar will serve award winning wines and socially conscious coffee https://oldspikeroastery.com/ together with a minimum of ten draft taps rotating craft beers and ciders. From our bottleshop you can grab yourselves a bottle or can from a choice of hundreds of craft drinks on offer, including beers, ciders, allergen friendly beers, artisan soft drinks and low/non-alcoholic beer all from independent British producers. If you’re staying with us to enjoy your drink pick from our shelves and we’ll chill it in a couple of minutes and serve it to you nice and cold or we can bag it up, so you can take it home. In a nutshell we want to give you the best possible selection of craft drinks so you can enjoy whatever takes your fancy whatever way you like.

Why are we using British Breweries?

There are a few reasons why we have chosen to only use British beers and soft drinks. First, there are estimated to be more than 1500 independent breweries in the UK, therefore given this incredible quantity on our doorstep why look further afield?  Let’s showcase as much of this colossal selection as we can and support an industry where our country is one of the leaders in the field. Which ties in with one of our core aims; to promote what is local, beginning with our town of Ormskirk and the county of Lancashire. Then, and perhaps most importantly of all, we are environmentally aware of our carbon footprint, and we are committed to reducing and offsetting it. So, it makes sense to be bringing our drinks on the shortest journey possible.

Who are we?

Hi! We are Gary and Lauren, a married couple who met ten years ago while working in a small bar. We always dreamt of one day having a business of our own and, as the years went by, our vision adapted and grew until eventually, we knew exactly what we wanted to create but due to all the day-to-day commitments of life it remained just a shared dream. 

Then during the pandemic our lives were flipped upside down. Like far too many others we lost family, were both made redundant and left to question what we should next do for the best and how we could move forward and get out of the position in which we found ourselves while having a baby on the way. After eventually making it through all those tough times we were left to realise that life is too short and precious so we had to do whatever we could to turn our shared dream into a reality, our little family business. Creating a place that not only we, but our customers would love to visit and enjoy.

So welcome to Kas Social! A place that combines our passions and one that we hope will become a welcoming and vibrant hotspot for the community with the emphasis on social. One that brings great craft beer, music and art together. A place that prides itself on using British brewers, local products and one which supports and works with it’s fellow local businesses and is above all conscious about the footprint it leaves behind for future generations. 

The project & building:

Kas Social will feature 10 taps and always aim to stock a choice of hundreds of craft drinks to showcase some of the best British craft beers and ciders, all from top independent breweries. Alongside these will be a wide range of low and non-alcoholic beers, a diverse range of artisan soft drinks, award winning wines and socially conscious coffee beans all ready for you to enjoy in our newly designed taphouse or to takeaway through our bottleshop.

What we will use the funds for?

Our bottleshop and taphouse is located at the heart of the historic market town of Ormskirk in Lancashire. Set over two floors in a building which was originally Ormskirk’s town hall. Before acquiring our new home, the building had been left vacant for quite some time and is now in desperate need of some tender loving care. We will start on the inside by removing the stud walls, repairing the ceiling, rewiring the electrics, fixing the floor, adding new toilets (upstairs and down), a kitchen, a bar and imaginative decor throughout our two storeys. Further down the line our aim is to restore the outside of the building to its former glory by removing the 70’s pebbledash to expose the original brickwork and repair the buildings damaged crest to its former glory.

Why crowdfund?

We thought about going down the traditional route of using banks however we really want to start as we mean to go on and keep things local by inviting members of the community to be involved in our story from the start. Through our rewards we are offering vouchers, beer and cider craft packages, hosting tasting nights, events and tap takeovers, along with many, many more. Please look at our pledge options for full details on each, as we have aimed to create something for everyone that showcases what the shop will be about. These rewards are great value to you, our future customers, as they are essential to help us to get our business launched.
