Make the Latin Connections Film Festival happen
We invite you to help bring the Latin Connections Film Festival to life—a vision that has been in the making for over four years. What started with a handful of screenings has evolved into a dynamic programme celebrating Iberian American cinema. We want to run the next edition of our festival that unites Scotland with the stories, art, and ideas of Latin America, Spain, and Portugal.
Why Latin Connections Matters
Scotland is home to over 50,000 people with roots in Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula, and many more Scots have visited or connected with these regions. We believe that storytelling through film can bring us closer, bridging cultures and perspectives across continents. Latin Connections aims to offer a platform for filmmakers who tell stories that resonate globally—stories of resilience, identity, love, and justice.
With rising voices against isolation and exclusion, we need events that celebrate diversity, openness, and connection. This festival will do just that, inviting you to experience Latin American cinema in Scotland and to be part of an artistic dialogue that speaks to all of us.
In its inaugural edition, Latin Connections gave us the opportunity to celebrate cinema, music, food and an atmosphere of warmth that united people of diverse cultures and nationalities. The programming included films from Colombia, Chile, Spain and Brazil, and we had the privilege of having the valuable support of the Brazilian Embassy, which made it possible to share with the Scottish public the unique stories and perspectives of Brazilian cinema. The response was overwhelming, reflecting the need and desire to have spaces where our stories and traditions can be celebrated and shared.
The fourth edition of Latin Connections will celebrate and bring together the cinema and culture of the countries that connect with Latinidad, hosting a vibrant programme that will be held between May and early June. Our goal is to combine Iberoamerican and local culture through art and cinema, showing the richness and diversity of Hispanic cinema within all nations that share a link with Latinidad.
Why Cinemaattic
CinemaAttic is a film platform that has been defending independent Ibero-American cinema in Scotland since 2008. We are a cinema without a postal address. This guerrilla, popup style allows us to bring our work closer to communities where there is no provision of cultural cinema or foreign cinema.
We have maintained a monthly programme throughout the year since 2014 with screenings in Edinburgh and Glasgow and occasionally in Dundee and other areas of Scotland.
CinemaAttic programmes unique cinematographic experiences that unite diverse communities, celebrating the rich tapestry of Ibero-American culture through its cinema. For example, our previous events, such as the Catalan Film Festival, Colombia - Presente!, or Brazil - A Slow Film Festival, to name a few, unite views from different geographical and cultural areas to consider a more complete and global set of issues that affect us all equally. These can be loneliness in our communities, discrimination or intolerance and other problems of our evolving societies.
Our commitment to a better future and to our community has led us to create a “lighter” programme that is exhibited for free in libraries on the outskirts of Edinburgh or in schools in Glasgow. This community work throughout the central belt of Scotland has been hugely successful, attracting a diverse audience and generating positive media coverage.
Today, CinemaAttic has become one of Scotland's key players on the film exhibition scene, strategically organising our events in collaboration with some of Scotland's leading film organisations.
With enhanced cinema experiences and a strong social focus allowing us to reach across popular audiences beyond festival-goers and specialist audiences, we have become one of the most active members of Film Hub Scotland. CinemaAttic is a case of coherence and commitment to a film programming proposal that has enriched the Scottish film scene for almost twenty years.
Why We Are Fundraising
We are looking to raise funds to support the running of the festival - licensing films, hiring venues, and paying staff all comes at a price. Your donations will go towards covering the core costs of this festival in a time when arts funding is at an all time low and it is more difficult than ever to financially sustain a film festival.
If our crowdfunder achieves beyond its target, we would love to look at using the additional money raised to take a part of the festival’s programme on tour around more of Scotland, or share a film with Scottish schools.
How You Can Help
We need your support to make this dream a reality. Every contribution brings us closer to launching the Latin Connections Film Festival in Scotland. Have a look at our rewards and see how you can get involved.
