Help us finish Last Chance For Love — following Jason Jones’ fight to overturn laws criminalising LGBTQIA+ people in Trinidad & Tobago.

Setting the Scene

For decades, Jason Jones has fought for the rights of LGBTQIA+ people across the Global South. Having endured hundreds of death threats, a fatwa and isolation from family and friends, Jason took Trinidad & Tobago to the High Court to challenge its discriminatory laws.

In 2018, he won a landmark victory, with the court ruling the law unconstitutional. In 2025, that victory was overturned using a savings clause, reviving colonial-era legislation many believed belonged in the past and criminalising LGBTQIA+ people once again.

Filmmaker Nathan Croft first became involved after meeting Jason’s colleague and the film’s facilitator, Alessandro Storer, at a networking event. Jason had already filmed interviews and footage in Trinidad & Tobago and was looking for help bringing the material together. When that footage was lost, the project was reimagined, drawing on Jason’s extraordinary network of activists and changemakers in the UK.

From there, Last Chance For Love found its story.

Synopsis

One Man's Fight Against a 500 Year Old Legacy

Last Chance For Love follows human rights activist Jason Jones’ journey to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, as he challenges the laws that criminalise the LGBTQIA+ community in Trinidad & Tobago.

Filmed over ten months, the documentary shares the remarkable stories of LGBTQIA+ activists and changemakers who remind us why the fight for equality is far from over, and is as important now as it has ever been. While progress has been made in some parts of the world, millions are still fighting for rights that many of us take for granted.

What Happens Next?

The film is now in its final stages.

The production stage is complete. The interviews have been filmed, important moments captured, and the feature has been edited. Now we need to take the final steps to get Last Chance For Love finished and ready to be seen.

We're raising £1,680 to cover the essential final costs listed below.

🎵 Composer and original music 🎵
We've recruited composer and musician Tom Inkpen to create and produce original musical motifs for the film. Nathan has already committed funds from his own pocket towards Tom's work, and this additional support will help ensure Tom receives a fairer fee for the time, care and creativity he is bringing to Last Chance For Love.

🍿 DCP and Quality Control Screening 📽️
Before a film can be properly screened, it needs to be professionally checked and prepared for presentation. This includes a Quality Control Screening and creation of a Digital Cinema Package (DCP) — the industry-standard format used to screen films in cinemas and at many film festivals. This is one of the final steps that will turn the completed edit into a film ready to be properly screened.

💾 SSD DCP Backup 💾
The film represents months of filming, interviews and creative work. A secure, dedicated SSD will provide a reliable backup of the completed project and help protect the film's master files and assets for the future.

🏆 Festival Submissions 🏆
Last Chance For Love has already generated interest from international festivals and events. This budget will allow us to submit the completed film to festivals and create more opportunities for Jason's story to reach audiences, spark conversations and be seen beyond the initial launch.

🛟 Contingency 🛟
Film projects often come with unexpected final costs. A small contingency gives us some flexibility to deal with anything that arises during the final stages of completion without taking money away from the essential deliverables above.

Reaching £1,680 will allow us to complete the film, professionally prepare it for screening and begin submitting Last Chance For Love to film festivals. Every contribution helps us take one step closer to getting the film in front of an audience.

What Happens If We Reach Our Target?

Our initial target of £1,680 will allow us to complete Last Chance For Love, professionally prepare the film for screening and begin submitting it to festivals.

But if we’re able to raise more, we’d love to take the film even further.

This will cover the final costs of completing the documentary, including the original score, professional QC screening, DCP creation, secure backup of the film and festival submissions.

🍿 Private Film Launch 🍿 - £2,948

If we reach £2,948, we’ll be able to host a private screening of Last Chance For Love for the cast and crew, giving everyone involved the opportunity to come together and see the finished film on the big screen.

🌟 Exclusive Film Launch 🌟 - £6,110

If we reach £6,110, we can take the launch to the next level with an exclusive screening for up to 110 guests, bringing together cast, supporters, press and invited guests.

This would give Last Chance For Love the launch it deserves and create an opportunity to celebrate the people who helped make the film possible.

* Please note: The screening will take place in London. The invitation covers entry to the screening only. Supporters are responsible for arranging and paying for their own travel and accommodation, whether travelling from within the UK or internationally.

** The screening invitation is conditional on the campaign reaching £6,110, and places will be limited. If the £6,110 stretch goal is not reached, the Film Supporter credit will still apply, but the screening invitation will not.
