Aim

Please help me release my new piano CD including Beethoven and Schubert final sonatas, aiming to bring a fresh touch to two masterpieces.

I have always thought the main purpose of music is creating connections among people which are grounded in common experiences and feelings, helping us to heal or rediscover ourselves through communal self-reflection and sense of belonging.

That is the reason why almost thirteen years ago, when I was diagnosed with a malign melanoma, I changed my mind and abandoned my long-lasting idea of becoming a doctor to become a professional pianist instead. I wanted to connect with people’s feelings in a way medicine would have never allowed me... I wanted to arrive to people’s souls, to make them feel something that, even if it was for an hour or two, transported them somewhere else and made them become someone else.

Over the last years, my main goal when designing concert programmes and planning recordings was creating a leading thread, a concept or a storyline which could connect all of the works I performed and that pursued an emotional effect on my audiences.

Initially, I did this through my original compositions, which I started writing when I was a teenager. However, life choices and opportunities lead me to develop my classical performer side further... but this did not change my core artistic values. From my first classical project (Contrasts) –which pretended to be a kaleidoscope of sounds and explore how different “musical grammars” varied the form of suites and sonatas while keeping their dramatic dimension– to my latest recording (Shreds of light) –which portrayed an allegory of hope and resilience during the pandemic years through works by Bach, Brahms, Migó and Liszt–, I have always wanted to give to classical repertoire another layer of meaning, connecting it with current affairs, struggles and personal feelings.

In this line, Last words is a project which pretends –taking advantage of the double death anniversary of Beethoven and Schubert in 2027 and 2028– to be a reflection on the concept of legacy, both from a musical point of view and also from a human point of view, as both composers featured in this new project had a very different approach to this concept based on personal values, situation and beliefs... which offers us a chance to reflect ourselves of what the term legacy means to us all.

To articulate this musical reflection, the main core of the repertoire included in this CD will be Beethoven’s and Schubert’s final piano sonatas, two absolute monuments of piano literature which I personally believe address deeply transcendental topics such as afterlife, the meaning of existence and the worldly/divine dichotomy. However, these two absolute masterpieces will be accompanied by a personal reflection –an homage at the same time to both composers– in the form of an Impromptu, which I have written to add my view on the concept of legacy.

However, I need your inestimable help to make this very personal project a reality. In exchange, below you will find a few reward options that will give donors early or premium access to different items based on the amount they decide to donate.

Thank you so much for your support and for helping me to make Last words project a reality.
