Aim: Save the Star of Greenwich, an inclusive community hub, by securing funds to keep our doors open and protect our future!

The sudden call for repayment of a longstanding debt by our landlord Greenwich Hospital has made it financially unfeasible for us to continue operations. We have closed our doors for the last time unless we can raise £51,710.

The Star of Greenwich pub is more than just a pub—it’s the heart of East Greenwich, a lifeline for thousands who come through its doors each month. Now, this vital community space is on the brink of closure.

Since reopening under community management in April 2023, the Star has become a haven for all, from young people and families to single parents and refugees. Located in one of the UK’s most deprived boroughs, it provides essential services like children’s playgroups, language classes, and a welcoming “public living room” for everyone. 

This space embodies true “levelling up,” creating an inclusive, safe, and supportive environment for all. Without it, many will lose their only accessible place to meet, find support, and connect.

Why We Need Your Help Now

Greenwich Hospital’s decision to call in this debt puts us at immediate risk of closure. Their demand for urgent payment on our lease could force us to close the doors of the Star for good. This crowdfunding campaign is our last chance to protect the Star’s future. Your support will go directly toward securing the lease, ensuring that East Greenwich retains this essential, life-changing space.

Our Long-Term Vision

While we work urgently to raise these immediate funds, we are also applying to the Community Ownership Fund to secure the building long-term. With this crowdfunder as our first step, we aim to eventually purchase the Star to protect it for future generations and expand its programmes even further.
