Aim: It's 15 years since the arson attack on our treasured community clubhouse. The rebuild is done but require £30,000 to complete the interior.

The ask and who we are

Thanks to Sport England, if we raise £15,000, Sport England will match it, unlocking an incredible £30,000 to complete the interior of our clubhouse.  We are celebrating our 200th birthday this year, Huddersfield's oldest and one of the oldest in Yorkshire, a remarkable legacy and the club and community are proud of - help us make this a special year!

Lascelles Hall Cricket Club has been in the heart of the village of Lascelles Hall since 1825.  Lascelles Hall Cricket Club has brought many happy memories of community life and cricket to the village. However, the club suffered a bleak period from 2010 when our historical and treasured clubhouse was destroyed by fire in an arson attack. A temporary ‘portacabin style’ clubhouse was erected and has functioned effectively since this date although not sustainable for another 200 years!  In our 200th year, we have many events planned including a bicentennial game against a ex representative Yorkshire side on 13th July and an MCC side on the 24th August. The club is quite simply the focal point of the community, in fact there is no other public or community building in the village. It is a hub to strengthen village community life and bring people together in many different ways.

Why are we crowdfunding?

For over a decade, we’ve worked to secure funding to rebuild the only community building in our village. In 2024, we were awarded £300,000 from the Community Ownership Fund to construct the exterior of a new clubhouse. In addition, we have raised other funding and used savings to complete all the exterior and landscaping areas totalling over £350,000.  However, we are facing a funding gap of £30,000 for the interior fit out and are seeking support to ensure the building is fully inclusive and accessible.

How we’ll spend the money raised

We have had incredible support from Easy Bathroom who generously provided all the shower/sanitary requirements (Over £17k) and Vivly Living who supplied a kitchen and internal doors (Over £20k) but require professional support from specific trades to fit out the internal requirements.  This includes plumbing, electrical fix, wall, floor and ceiling finishes.  We have an army of volunteers but need specific specialist help in these areas.  The building has been fitted with an air source heat pump complete with underfloor heating providing a sustainable solution for generations to enjoy all year around.

Community impact

Our rural, small village has no community centre/space. Lascelles Hall is in the bottom quarter nationally for access to services due to no community infrastructure being available. Our club has always filled this void but since the arson attack we haven't been able to adequately support our community with a base for voting/training-events/community-groups/social-events/healthy-pastimes. Our new clubhouse is a good step forward but this project is vital to ensure everyone in the community can access our facilities and natural/open green space. We have surveyed the local community as part of our new facility development, receiving 48 responses. Each respondent answered 12 questions, with unanimous support for the new clubhouse. 1748266179_200_crest_v1.png
