The project aim is to make some essential repairs to our Clubhouse to make it a more welcoming environment for our members and visitors
by Langworthy Reds ARLFC in Salford, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom
Langworthy Reds are an inclusive community rugby league club located in the heart of Salford since 1934. We provide rugby league to boys & girls, men and women with members starting at age 3. We currently have over 200 active members and are looking to continue our growth by adding girls only and masters teams in 2025. We are in an area of Greater Manchester that suffers from social and economic deprivation meaning the work we do for our community is invaluable. Our club is entirely run by volunteers for the benefit of our community, and is not run for profit.
The building currently used as our clubhouse has a lot of local history and has been part of the community for over 140 years. We have converted the clubhouse into a space for a modern rugby league club, however, due to the age of our clubhouse and vandalism experienced over the past few years there are some quite major repairs that need urgent attention. The roof is leaking in multiple places into the function room, bar and changing rooms which is causing damage to the interior of the building, windows have been smashed and external doors need replacing. The building has been in dire need of proper investment for a number of years and we have used club funds to make do and patch up generally but the building has got to the point where it needs major investment, the club funds simply don't cover these costs. Club funds are raised by players paying subs but these just about cover the general running costs of the club.
The money will be used to repair the roof, replace the windows, replace the external doors and make good any interior damage as a result. We have got quotes for the repairs and need to reach the target in order to make the project achievable. Any additional money raised will be used to replace furniture in the function room and make other improvements around the clubhouse.
Our clubhouse is a valuable part of the community. Not only is it used for club activities, it is also a place where we can host meetings and events for the public. It is a safe space for our members and visitors alike. The repairs will allow us to continue providing rugby league to the community and provide them with a safe, clean and welcoming space to enjoy after matches, during club events or for external events. As we continue to grow and engage more local children and adults to be active and enjoy sport, our clubhouse is an important part of what we offer. This project would be transformational for the club, we currently 'waste' a lot of money each year making temporary repairs just to keep things going and keep the clubhouse presentable, mainly due to the age of the building. This project would enable us to make proper repairs to the building, futureproofing it from further damage and allow us to focus on providing services to the public and continuing our growth.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
