Active Play Area for Langside Primary School

Aim

Gloria is running the Darlington Junior 3K fun run on Sunday, 2 August 2026 with her friend Rosie to raise funds for Langside Primary

The raised beds in the playground at Langside Primary have collapsed in recent months and had to be dismantled due to safety fears. Given this is one of the few "green areas" on the school campus, the school is keen to re-establish this area to provide an active play area.

The plans involve creating a kind of mini-den play area that can be used as an imaginative play space, providing rain/ sun cover within a safe space that can also be used for outdoor learning.

The cost of this is not covered by the local authority, so it's up to the school and parent/ carer community to cover the cost and make this happen.

The cost to remove the current raised bed and replace with a more user-friendly play area is ~£6k (largely as a result of the location of the school on a hill and the manual handling required to dismantle the old planters).

Gloria is running the Darlington Junior 3K fun run on Sunday, 2 August 2026 with her friend Rosie to raise funds for the Langside Primary active play area. 3k is a long way for a five year old and we hope that you can support her to make her school playground a more fun and active place!
