A local independent cafe within the new Langcliffe Quarry Enterprise Centre. Supporting and serving the local community of Langcliffe.

by Barn House Coffee in Settle, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Hello you wonderful people!!

Welcome to Barnhouse Coffee 😊 We are hopefully going to be based at Langcliffe Quarry Enterprise Centre, where we will be serving you homemade baked cakes, freshly baked pastries, delicious hot drinks and light lunches by a cosy fire 😊

It's a little bit of a read, but we would love for you to have some background on what we are trying to bring alive!

The Enterprise Centre opened in 2024 co-located with a Yorkshire Dales site of interest, Craven Lime Works. We want the cafe to offer the cosiness of an independent coffee shop with the professionalism and experience to support local tourism, whilst being at the heart of the community and helping the community to thrive through the winter and support for the work experience scheme.

Nathan has a history of working in the service industry, having served on the magnificent Queen Elizabeth II, single-handedly managed a coffee bar in a prestigious law firm in Bristol and created and managed a mobile coffee company before the pandemic. Richard is an active paramedic consulting for the NHS, working across the globe with experience in managing and supporting new start-up organisations and growing into global traders.

We want the cafe to be a sustainable contributor to the local community, ensuring a safe, warm place to meet and socialise. The provision of a cafe on this site will allow us to utilise the new development, its free parking, and open space allocated to the community for events and local groups.

Barnhouse Coffee will be working with the local job centre to provide work experience, alongside qualifications in hospitality to help people get back into the work place or gain the experience needed to get started in a new career.

The cafe is ready to provide areas to local businesses to sell their Yorkshire made products to visitors and residents alike.

The fantastic location of Langcliffe Quarry Enterprise Centre will be accessible throughout the year. The cafe will be there to support the local industrial units and offices, the residents and community groups of the village of Langcliffe, and the tourists visiting the Yorkshire Dales site of interest, Craven Lime Works.

Barnhouse coffee intends to provide an outdoor seating area as well as comfortable indoor provision to cater for everyone all year round. We hope to support the use of the community outdoor space that has been provided beside Hoffmann Kiln and bring life to the Enterprise Centre.

We really do have so many wonderful ideas that we want to share with you. It is a fantastic location with heaps of potential.

Barnhouse Coffee is a private venture and we receive no funds or support from the local or national government. The new location means we are unable to utilise financial support from banks to get up and running and therefore have had to personally fund our start up. We are aiming for a target of £3.5k to help towards costs for transforming the unit. The window trims are not finished, there is limited electrics (1 plug point for the whole building) and no heating was installed during the build. The unit is owned by North Yorkshire Council and leased by ourselves.

Thank you for taking the time to have a read. It really is appreciated.

We will keep everyone updated on this new venture, and hopefully, we will be up and running soon!

Have a lovely day!

Team @ Barnhouse 😊

Richard and Nathan
