We're still collecting donations

Help us to keep supporting brilliant fringe theatre projects and creatives in London in the aftermath of our extended COVID-19 Closure.

On the 7th October 2020 we'd raised £643 with 23 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
We took over management of the Lion & Unicorn Theatre in March 2019 with the aim of accelerating the growth of our brilliant little black box studio into a destination fringe theatre venue which championed the work of our brilliant emerging fringe theatre community and put the work of some very talented theatre people back on the map.
It remains our mission to champion and support early-career theatre-makers with a unique level of support and guidance and offer rare opportunities for talented but often underexposed theatre makers to get their work made in a cost-effective and supportive environment ideal to help them make work for London's diverse audiences.
Our first year saw multiple brand new shows from amazing new and established artists, a platform for hugely successful Edinburgh Fringe previews, a highly successful Camden Fringe season and multiple critically-acclaimed and award-nominated shows from our team of Associate Artists and inhouse production company Proforca Theatre Company. 2019 was the brilliant start of the realisation of a dream to create an awesome fringe theatre space for London. Our plans for 2020 were going to be equally as exciting, with 6 months of shows booked in advance with plenty more in the pipeline.
And then along came the Coronavirus to crash the party...
Since Lockdown in March, we've been restricted from opening by the Government. Whilst we're likely to be able to open soon in some form or other, social distancing is going to significantly restrict access to the venue for audiences for the short term future and like many other theatres, we need to find new and innovative ways to manage our costs and continuing to secure the theatre's future.
We're desperate to rebuild our programming, reopen where we can, and continue to provide a brilliant platform for the artists, writers, actors, and creatives we work with, to include:
If you've visited the Lion & Unicorn Theatre before or seen one of our shows, you'll know what a special building it is and what the opportunity to re-open the theatre will mean for all the amazing performers we work with. We could not be more grateful for the support we've received from our Landlords at Young's Pubs and also from the brilliant team downstairs at the Lion & Unicorn, but now we're asking our audiences and friends to help guarantee our future.
As a small business, The Lion and Unicorn Theatre receives no funding and prides itself on paying its own way. We've continued to create work for our core team and freelancers where possible during lockdown even though our entire revenue stream has been taken away from us.
By making a donation to the theatre today with either the cost of a pint or of a ticket for a forthcoming production, you'll not only be helping us to provide an ongoing platform for the incredible artists we work with, you'll be guaranteeing that the theatre can ride out what is likely to be a challenging year of social distancing and audience restrictions. We're determined to make sure we're in the best possible place to welcome you back for some brave, groundbreaking and thrilling fringe theatre as soon as we're able to once the government tell us that it's safe to reopen fully for audiences, and in the meantime, make sure we're making theatre the best way we can.
"The Lion and Unicorn Theatre welcomed us with open arms and supported us as artists from the get go. Their continued belief in us and the fact we know they’ll always have our back has given us the confidence the push ourselves further creatively, experiment and strive to be better artists. We love The Lion and Unicorn!" - Sycorax Theatre Company
"The Lion & Unicorn Theatre is filled with brave, new work, inspiration and copious generosity. It's somewhere I want to be." - Gabrielle Nellis-Pain, Far Cry Theatre Company
“It’s always a wonderful experience working with the Lion and Unicorn Theatre. The theatre is always there to support you, especially as an emerging artist, and is always open to the new ideas we spring at them and is an overall pleasure to work with. Can not recommend the Lion and Unicorn enough for artists making their own work and trying to pave a way in the industry.” - Hooked Theatre
We know that times are tough and that pockets are being squeezed all over the place, but we know that the Lion & Unicorn Theatre creates not only opportunities for hundreds of creatives from all walks of life, but also brilliant fringe theatre experiences of all kinds. Your donation, no matter how small, is so appreciated, and we're so grateful that you've thought of donating to us and the future of the venue, and we look forward to welcoming you back for a pint and a play soon!
With our best wishes
The Lion & Unicorn Theatre Team.
