In 2021, I began to work on a film about the history and background of the Munros and the Highlands. While it has been a long-term project for a few years, the Munro Society initiated the concept and provided a modest, and very-much appreciated sum to get things going.
Once complete, this film will go for a run of cinema dates, similar to my Winter Munros film last year, which toured for 24 dates across 17 towns and cities.
I'm doing a very special screening of 'Winter 282', at the Stirling Tolbooth in September - this will go toward this crowdfunder for the new film - more info at the bottom!
The input of the late, great Robin Campbell forms the backbone of this new film. Along with visits to film historical artefacts in his possession, he sat down for hours of interviews on camera, answered many questioning emails and provided me with access to the SMC’s archive of photographs to dive into. Robin Campbell sadly passed away in early 2024, but I am immensely grateful that I could show him an advanced (one-hour) cut of the film, including all of his contributions. At the time, he commented that he did not find a single mistake in the narrative! The film, if released, would be a lasting tribute to his passion, character and great expertise.
The final film will be a feature-length exploration of the Highlands in a period of drastic social change, the development of the Scottish Mountaineering Club, a biography of Hugh Munro himself and the legacy that he left behind.
To complete the film I have some substantial costs to cover. The project to date has been at a financial loss to myself, and the remaining costs are ones that for once I cannot absorb.
The sum of money I am seeking includes the time of an edit producer to assist in sculpting the remainder of the story and a finishing editor. It covers the cost of a graphics artist and multiple voiceover artists, as well as facilities and equipment costs that go along. Finally, the total sum covers the permission to use the SMC's extensive image archive, photographs whose subject constitutes the very core of the story.
For your generous support, thank you in advance.

I'm also hosting a special screening of my previous film, WINTER 282, at the Stirling Tolbooth on Wednesday 25 September 2024, as a fundraiser for this latest film. Buy tickets now at:
