Who We Are
Lancaster CC is an ECB Clubmark accredited club with 2 senior teams playing in the Northern Premier Cricket League and Palace Shield with junior teams ranging from U9s to U16s. We also run an AllStars programme.
The club was established in 1841 and is situated on the River Lune in Lancaster.
The club is run on a voluntary basis and has been a hub of the community for a long period of time.
We pride ourselves in being a diverse and inclusive cricket club and an active part of the local community, providing a safe and friendly environment for all.
Our junior teams comprise of both girls and boys of all ages and abilities. Our junior training night regularly attracts over 40 children.
Our facilities are used by many, not only for cricket practice, but junior football, changing facilities for ladies and mens football, as well as local school PE lessons.
The Cost of Covid
All of the club's income comes from fundraising events using both the sports facilities and the clubhouse facilities. We have been unable to host these since March 2020. We have seen a drastic fall in membership and sponsorship as our members and business supporters understandably tighten the belt in these unprecedented times.
All fundraising events & social functions have been cancelled including our main fundraiser which is the Gin, Rum and Reggae Festival. These have left a massive hole both financially for the club and in the wellbeing of the local community.
We used the time of the first lockdown to improve some of our facilities for the benefit of all. Most of the improvements were carried out by our volunteers. We want to continue this hard work.
What we want to do
We will use the money to improve facilities and ensure that we are able to perform training sessions in smaller groups. The nets were improved last year but still need some improvements. These will be upgraded to ensure both lanes are able to be used and we will purchase a mobile net to give us another option to train on the pitches again reducing the sizes in the groups. With these smaller groups we will need more qualified coaches so we will pay for members to become qualified coaches ensuring they can support the junior section.
Before
After
As you may have noticed over the last couple of years the seating area around the club has become quite run down and has several missing sections. We would look to upgrade this and add some specialised durable picnic tables that are suitable for young & old. These would be available to all whether its watching cricket, socialising or a place where the school children using the facilities can eat their lunch.
Area to improve
In addition we would like to improve the facilities around the far wall which is becoming run down. This would ensure the site looks more welcoming and any benches for use would be replaced.
Area by far wall which we would look to improve
In addition, we have to replace old and broken equipment and machinery to help maintain the facilities. We require a new mower to cut the square and have been advised one will cost in excess of £2,000. Other machines are in need of repair or replacing. Our scarifying machine requires new blades and the spiker needs replacing.
Matched Funding
Sport England have launched a "Return to Play: Active Together" initiative which matches funds raised by 50% providing we meet their criteria. We have to raise £10,000 from a minimum number of 100 pledges.
How can you help?
We need to generate donations from members, families, friends and the wider community to help us complete these projects and cover the lost income in 2020 and 2021. Please have a look at the rewards and if there is anything else you feel we can offer then get in touch.
We have linked with Go Burrito to give something back to people who donate so please look at the rewards and select if you would like to receive any of the rewards.
We are aware that both businesses & individuals have also been hit hard by the impact of COVID-19. However, if you can spare any money to donate, large or small, we would really appreciate the support.
If you do pledge a family donation, please can you pay for each family member separately
Thank you
