Lightning Maths is raising money for production of Lampogo Blocks - a game of hands-on number puzzles for new mathematicians.
Update: The Crowdfunder is now completed - hurrah! Thanks to all those who backed and shared. You can now order Lampogo Blocks at the Lightning Maths website.

Lampogo Blocks is a tactile game of number puzzles for new mathematicians. It supports children aged 4+ to master numbers 1 to 10 through play and discovery. Lampogo Blocks has been developed by primary school teacher Roy Clutterbuck to make maths engaging and to show that everyone can learn to love the language of numbers. Children can play by themselves or with others for peer-supported learning. It is the perfect resource for adults to support children's learning and provides opportunities for questioning and mathematical discussion.

Many people have negative feelings about maths, this can affect children also. People sometimes see maths as abstract and intimidating, and can worry about getting it wrong.
Lampogo Blocks has been designed to remove these barriers; to make maths more accessible, as something playful and enjoyable.
In Lampogo Blocks, understanding of number is grounded in the physical experience of the Blocks and is not merely abstract.
Players can explore a puzzle by trying a Block to see if it is correct, if not, they can take it back and try another. This removes the negative feeling of ‘getting it wrong’ and shows that ‘mistakes’ are steps towards finding the solution.
Players can intuitively see for themselves onces they have got the answer correct. All of these factors help to build the number confidence and fluency that are the foundation to a good mathematical understanding.

By backing this campaign, you are helping my social enterprise, Lightning Maths, and my work to improve maths engagement and outcomes in schools. The Lighting Maths Numeracy Programme consists of the games I have designed, as well as teacher guidance and staff training. Last year I worked with primary schools in South Yorkshire and Greater Manchester to improve pupils' number fluency and confidence. (I am looking to work with more schools in this area over the coming year, so do pass on the message if you know any primary teachers!)
At the moment, I am currently making copies of Lampogo Blocks by hand, which takes up a lot of glue, ink and time. With your help, I can get Lampogo Blocks manufactured, and can spend more of my time where it matters most, working with teachers and pupils.
It is important to me that Lampogo Blocks is environmentally friendly, so the game will be completely plastic free and made with sustainable FSC certified paper and cardboard.

Thanks for your time and interest! If you want to support me in my maths mission, please share this campaign with others who may be interested. Thank you for helping to support the campaign in any way that you can.
