Aim

LADY LUCK is the second short film by award winning Writer / Director / Producer Isabella Culver.

'A modern day strip club fable in which Angels and Demons collide - but is luck made or granted?'

LOGLINE:

When a mysterious newcomer offers Angel a drug promising a “Lucky” night, she is thrust into a strange, mystical test of self-belief that could transform her.

TONE:

Think Suspiria but set in a strip club.

Synopsis:

Angel is a hustler, a dreamer, a fighter and a woman trying to wrestle her inner saboteur into submission. On a slow night at the strip club, her shift takes a surreal turn when she meets Lucky, an otherworldly new dancer offering her a sparkly green powder called 'Lady Luck' a substance whispered to flip your fortunes.

As superstition bleeds into reality and the club’s neon haze becomes a battleground, Angel finds herself pushed right to the brink. What begins as a last-ditch attempt to salvage a ‘bad money night’ transforms into a magical-realist journey of self-belief, power, ego death and liberation.

‘Lady Luck’ is a bold, female-led fable about confidence, hustle and rewriting your own fate.

"You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated" - Maya Angelou

Tell Us Your Story:

Hi, I’m Isabella Culver — writer, director, South London girl, and lover of magical realism, folklore, and the strange, wonderful ways women survive the world. I make films that blend the surreal with the everyday, because sometimes the only way to tell the truth is to bend reality a bit.

My last short film, Seven Sisters, explored superstition and recovery after trauma. It screened at over twenty international festivals and won four Best Short Film at Four of them. Seven Sisters is available to watch on Now TV and Sky Arts. I tell female-centred stories that are messy, funny, painful, and weird — stories full of grit, glamour and psychological truth. Lady Luck is my new short: a surreal, stylish, neon-lit fable set entirely inside a London strip club. It follows Angel, a dancer fighting body dysmorphia, bad luck, and a vicious inner voice. When she meets Lucky — a mysterious new girl with supernatural vibes — Angel is pulled into a magical-realist journey about confidence, self-belief and reclaiming your power.

This isn’t a “sad stripper story.” It’s an empowering, funny, feral, feminist ride set against the backdrop of a world dripping with superstition, ritual, hustle and humour.

I’m working with a brilliant team to bring this story to life:

Writer / Director - Isabella Culver

Cinematographer - Miguel Cármenes

Producer - Aisha Kemp

Producer - Phin Shaughnessy

Casting Director - Cameron Culver

We’re raising funds to film inside a real strip club, pay our dancers and crew fairly, light it in rich neon surrealism, choreograph the pole sequences beautifully, and give Angel’s inner world the wild, cinematic treatment it deserves.

Your support will help us cover:

• Location hire

• Fair pay for dancers, actors, and crew

• Choreography and pole movement direction

• Surrealist lighting and cinematography

• Production design, costume, and makeup

• Post-production (sound, colour, editing, VFX)

Lady Luck is also a proof of concept for my upcoming feature film, TOXIC, which explores body dysmorphia, beauty culture and female psychological horror. Supporting this short helps build the foundation for the feature.

Thank you for supporting independent film, female-authored stories, and the kind of cinema that lets women be powerful, chaotic, magical, complicated and real.

We can’t wait to bring this world to the screen.

We are looking to partner with a production company, so if you are interested in working with us please reach out!

Similarly, if you are a brand or are able to offer in kind support - whether that be camera equipment, lighting, catering or would like to have brand placement in the film please get in contact.
