To provide specialised bereavement support for women who have experienced significant loss, to enable them to start enjoying life again.
Kyra is a women-only centre open to all women living in York and its surrounds. It is a safe place where vulnerable women (members) can feel at home. Each year we support 500 members to recover from anxiety and depression, long-term health conditions, domestic abuse (DA), loneliness, bereavement and loss of confidence (to name but a few). We support women to laugh again, socialise, make friends, learn, grow their skills and confidence, build a community and overcome adversity. Members are referred by GPs, local authorities, mental health providers, and other community/voluntary service providers.
Over the last 18 months, many people have had to grieve alone, or only with immediately family – who are also grieving – to support them. They have missed out on wider community support. Kyra wants to support them to work through their loss and free them up to start enjoying life again. Tools for coping with loss will positively impact the families of those who learn them, husbands, children, work colleagues will all benefit from someone able to navigate and express their grief.
