Kriolo Restaurant. Luso-african home cooking style

Aim

My goal is to bring to Cardiff a luso-african home made food seasoned with history, culture and a sense of belonging.

My name is Rui, I was born in Guine-Bissau but most of my upbriging was split between Portugal and Mozambique.

After raising my family in Cabo Verde and working as an accountant and consulting expert for nearly 30 years, I followed my daughters moving to Cardiff in 2017. I have since been working as a kitchen associate following my passion for food and cooking and now I wish to follow my dream and open a traditional homecooking style Luso-African restaurant. Through a culinary experience I want to bring together people from Portugal and most of its ex colonies (Cabo Verde, Angola, Mozambique, Guiné-Bissau, Brazil, São Tomé e Princípe) and showcase their beautiful culture and history to all.

I want this to be a family business and I am hoping to recruit some of the very capable professionals I have met and befrended along my journey as a kitchen associate.

The restaurant will be launched in a two tiered operation. First a small soup and sandwishes house which will grow into a full traditional restaurant where people can feel at home and be surrounded by pieces of their culture and history.

This project is very close to my heart as I have always loved cooking (I was always in charge of the food at family gatherings or small events), and the way it brings people together is simply priceless to me.

With the money we raise I plan to kick start this project (all the planning is complete), and get a venue, finalise contracts with suppliers not only in the UK but if needed in all the countries previosuly mentioned to bring the fresh products I need but also the traditional local things of each country.

I am incredibly passionate about this project and I have been working on it for quite some time, I hope you all embarc on this journey with me and of course enjoy the fruits of this labour by becoming loyal customers.
