We are a community horticulture and conservation charity on 15 acres at the top of a hill in Dumbarton West. The majority of the site is public greenspace and open 365 days a year. We work with a wide range of individuals and groups, such as schools, women's groups, people in recovery, after-school groups, Community Payback Order groups; and provide learning opportunities in practical horticulture and in countryside management, as well as fun activities in school holidays, opportunities for longer-term volunteering and a number of public events each year. Our wee bit of the planet is being managed to be as good as possible for people and for nature. We have established a community orchard, community growing spaces, and are managing the woodland, wildflower/pollinator meadows, hedgerows, and ponds to be as good for biodiversity as possible. It's worth a visit to stretch your legs and enjoy lovely views and fresh air.

Set up as a project in a larger charity in 2021 we are delighted to have gone it alone following a successful pilot, and have now been running our own affairs since April 2024. We are a busy site, with individual and groups from the local community and further afield coming to our volunteering sessions, activities and events. Our work is overseen by our Board of Trustees, and delivered day to day by our one staff member with support from sessional workers when funding allows.

We are proud of how many different groups and individuals have visited and used our site, for practical sessions, for fun activities, or just to admire the views and breathe the air...!
We have found four species of orchids on our site, as well as recording a variety of insect and bird species. Our wee bit of the planet really seems to be improving for wildlife!
What we need now is a bit more cash in the bank. Some to use to support our today to day activities alongside grants we apply for from other funders, and some to build a cash reserve for a rainy day, or for unexpected problems. Having this will enable us to become sustainable, and continue to develop the site and project so we can become a valued part of the local Dumbarton community.
