Kidical Mass Insurance

Aim

Insurance for 2026-2027 will be £5280 for up to 60 Kidical Mass groups in the UK. This is for public liability and cover for our volunteers.

Crowdfunder to support all local Kidical Mass groups across the UK, to purchase an insurance policy that will cover up to 60 groups. We are looking to secure insurance for May 2026 - April 2027.

Why we're asking again

If you supported our previous crowdfunder, thank you, and you may be wondering why we're back. Here's what happened.

After our original insurance policy was suddenly dropped, we spent months searching for an alternative. We've now secured a new path forward: Cycling UK and their brokers, Bikemo, have rewritten their guidance specifically to allow a policy that covers protest rides like ours. This is a significant step and the only option we've found.

What this means practically

• We've had to refund all previous donations, so we're starting fresh.
• The new policy is considerably more expensive than before.
• We'll be creating a new affiliation form with specific requirements groups need to agree to. These are things you should be doing anyway, but we need to formalise them for the insurance to be valid.

Why this has taken so long

Getting here hasn't been straightforward. We initially hoped for a simple solution, but the process has involved lengthy negotiations. The main sticking points have been around participant registration requirements and getting written confirmation that protest rides are explicitly covered.

Why we think it's worth it

Despite the higher cost and the bureaucratic hurdles, we believe this is the right approach. It gives us genuine peace of mind and puts the rides on solid footing for the future.

About Kidical Mass

Kidical Mass is a growing worldwide body of people with the same vision - to allow children and young people to be able to safely and independently travel by bicycle wherever they live.

Our motto is "Kids Are Traffic Too" and we're looking for "Space for the next generation". 

We spread our vision by arranging local rides for all the family which highlight the demand for improved safe spaces for children to walk, scoot, wheel and cycle in their neighbourhoods.

Anyone can attend a Kidical Mass ride - from 0 to 99 (and beyond). Plus it's free to attend!

Kidical Mass rides are designed to be inclusive for all ages and abilities, for disabled and able-bodied alike.

The rides are fun, safe environments for families and friends to cycle together. 

You don’t have to have a kid to be involved!
