Aim

Raise enough funds to support our youth programmes in bringing the existing and new youth back and make up for time lost due to the pandemic

Our club.

We are a GAA club formed in 1966 and based in Dungiven which actively encourages all its members and the local community to participate in sporting or social activities associated with the club.

The club is an inclusive club which endeavours to provide sport, physical activity and additional activities to all members of the community. Further to providing GAA activities for 267 playing members, the club provides the following activities for non-playing members of the community:

- Community classes (Irish Language, Fitness, etc…)

- Scór cultural activities (singing, Irish Dancing)

- Summer schemes & Easter schemes

- Seasonal parties/Fundraisers (Halloween, Christmas etc.)

- Provision of training facilities (first aid, defibrillator etc.)

In our 55 years we have never seen a period like this and we have been hit hard by COVID, with a wider drop in membership, volunteers, and income.

Our facilities.

Kevin Lynch Park was purchased and development started in September 2004 with an official opening on the last Sunday in July 2006.  From the purchase until now we have spent in the region of £1.8m and now provide playing pitches and a community hub which includes an indoor sports area, gym and walking path for all our community.  That latest phase in these developments, the community walking path was delivered during the pandemic.  This was a very welcome addition to Kevin Lynch Park but it has taken its toll financially with a 350K investment at a time when fundraising was very limited due to restrictions.

Our appeal.

As mentioned before with the pandemic starting in the middle of a major investment to our club grounds the financial impact of COVID 19 has been somewhat magnified.  This created a perfect storm which no one could have foreseen created by limitations on planned fundraising to support this project.  Due to the cataclysmic impact on revenue we urgently need funding support to help our youth to emerge from this horrific coronavirus crisis

The focus of this appeal is our youth. They have lost nearly 2 years of their sporting lives and their wellbeing, social inclusion, exercise, ball skills and of course, fun and enjoyment have been somewhat curtailed.

We want to be ready and ensure every opportunity is provided for our youth to have these qualities of life returned to them and also welcome new playing members at the same time.

What we will deliver using your investment.

As an inclusive club we invite all the youth in our catchment area to get involved in our national games.  Since restrictions start to be lifted we have noticed an increased appetite from the youth of the area to want to play Hurling.   We want to make sure we deliver the best quality coaching in their respective game skills based on their abilities, with a major focus on fun and building relationships which team sports can bring.

Your support will enable us to:

  • Update current procedures using the best practice advice approved by the GAA Medical, Scientific and Welfare and Games Development Committees and see what areas may require attention ahead of the new season.
  • Recruit, train and support coaches to develop and mentor these young players.
  • Provide our youth with appropriate support, facilities and resources.
  • Cover increased costs for equipment related to limitation on sharing across teams.
  • Cover the cost of increased pitch maintenance, overheads and facility hire.
  • Allow our young players to develop alongside their teammates and peers through hurling, and promote their mental and physical health as well as the social benefits of the sport.
  • Deliver competitive matches against players of a similar age and ability.
  • Build the camaraderie, values and character that come through organised team sport, teaching lessons that go far beyond the pitch.
