The aim of Kirkcaldy Foodbank is to ensure that nobody in the local area goes hungry in a time of crisis. We offer free food to anyone who comes through our doors and asks for help - no proof of need is required, no evidence of poverty. There is no limit to the number of visits a client can make, but the average is three times, normally just to get through a period of extreme hardship, eg, following benefit sanctions.
The demand for our service has risen to such an extent that we estimate we will be spending £12,000 per month on food by next year.
This grant money could give us the security to plan ahead and to know that we will not run out of food in the near future. In terms of making a difference in the local community, it is clear what we do - we stop people being hungry. When it comes down to what people need to survive, the most basic requirement is food. That's what we provide.
