Aim

We aim to create a community driven, inspiring new space for all wheeled sports to enjoy safely, inclusive to all ages and abilities.

Who are we?

Kingston and its surrounding areas has a long history of skateboarding and wheeled sports, taking inspiration from the travelling Australian lifeguards in the 70's. The existing skatepark area was provided by Kingston Parish Council and its community over 20 years ago, and is now in dire need of improvement to ensure the space remains safe and usable.

'Kingston Ramp Project' is a sub-committee of the Parish Council, who also own the land on which the skate area resides. Consisting of a diverse collection of local residents, parents, councillors and skateboarders, all committed to enhancing our community spaces, we are aiming to create a new safe and inspiring area to be proud of, serving the local and wider community and further enhancing the skating opportunity within South Devon.

What we've been doing, and why are we crowdfunding?

The initial idea to improve the skatepark goes back a number of years, as ever increasing degradation and required repairs needed us to come up with a plan. The project commenced properly 12 months ago. After gathering support of the community and the Parish Council, the subsequent formation of the  KRP committee took place, undertaking pre-planning applications for the permitted development of the area, community fundraising events and grant applications. Our awesome community has already raised nearly £5K from various events in support of the project, with several more planned in the coming months.

Several grant applications have also been made, with a match funding pledge from Sport England's Movement Fund being offered to our project. Providing we can raise £15K from this crowdfunding campaign, Sport England will match it with a further £15K. This would take us a long way towards our goal, which is why we would really love your help...

What might the space look like, and how will the money be spent?

The skatepark area is located within Kingston's recreation ground, which is an amazing space with an array of playground equipment, football pitch, hard surfaced sports area and picnic benches. The creation of an improved and progressive new skating area would hugely enhance the opportunity to become more physically and socially active within a special and safe place.

Our aim is to use shaped concrete to create the new skate facility, and all money raised will go directly towards making this project a reality. The final design depends entirely on how much money we can raise overall, with the design and development to be undertaken by an experienced local skatepark builder with the additional assistance of community volunteers. Estimates for the project range between £40-70K, with more money raised meaning a more expansive design. But our main target with this crowdfunding campaign is to raise £15K so that we can access the match funding from Sport England.

Further funding is currently being applied for and planned fundraising events will hopefully boost the project towards completion in time for summer 2026.
