Aim

Help us secure the future of Kings Heath Community Centre — owned by the community, for the community.

Why We’re Taking Action

Birmingham City Council is in the process of disposing of Kings Heath Community Centre as part of wider financial cuts. When this news emerged, local residents came together with one shared goal: to save the Centre and ensure it remains a place run by the community, for the community.

That group — now formally established as the Kings Heath Community Centre Community Benefit Society — has been named the Council’s preferred bidder to take over ownership and management of the building. This community share offer is the next crucial step in that journey.

Our Vision

Kings Heath Community Centre already has so much potential. It houses a sports hall, two function rooms, a garden, kitchen, foyer, car park, and offices. Yet it has been underused and under-promoted for years, operating at a loss and proving difficult for local people to access.

We believe it can become a thriving hub of activity, creativity, and connection — a space that’s accessible, inclusive, and well-used by local groups, residents, and visitors throughout the week.

The Share Offer

We are launching our community share offer on 12 October 2025, giving local people the opportunity to invest directly in the future of the Centre.

  • Target: £150,000
  • Minimum raise: £100,000
  • Maximum raise: £250,000
  • Matched funding: Up to £50,000 from the Co-ops UK Booster Fund (which has already provided £10,000 towards our early-stage costs)

Funds raised will allow us to take ownership of the building, cover initial running costs, and carry out vital improvements to make the Centre welcoming, efficient, and environmentally sustainable.

Our Priorities for Year One

Investment from the community will allow us to:

  • Make the building fully accessible, including improving and relocating the accessible toilet.
  • Create gender-neutral facilities to increase inclusivity.
  • Refurbish and revitalise the Centre’s interior, exterior, and garden, creating a welcoming and creative environment.
  • Upgrade the kitchen to support larger events and training opportunities for local people.
  • Improve energy efficiency through insulation, heating upgrades, and, in time, solar panels.
  • Replace outdated furniture with adaptable, modern pieces that suit a range of uses.
  • Invest in staging, sound, and visual equipment to enable performances and creative activity.
  • Establish co-working and creative space for local freelancers, artists, and organisations.
  • Develop a strong online presence to make booking simple and raise awareness of what’s on offer.

A Community-Led Future

By investing in the share offer, you’ll become a member-owner of the Kings Heath Community Centre Community Benefit Society. Every member has one vote, regardless of investment size, ensuring decisions are made collectively and democratically.

Those unable to invest can still become members by paying a £1 joining fee, helping to shape the Centre’s direction.

We are confident that with community ownership, Kings Heath Community Centre can once again become a valued and self-sustaining local resource — a place where people meet, learn, celebrate, and create.

Be Part of the Story

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to secure the future of a much-loved community space. By investing, you’ll help preserve it for future generations and create a Centre that truly reflects the energy and diversity of Kings Heath.

Invest now to own a share in Kings Heath Community Centre and shape its future.
