We’re raising a year’s funding to keep shelves stocked, collect food safely and support local families through our SE8 foodbank.
Barawak is a Black‑led community organisation based in Kingfisher Square, Deptford SE8. We began our foodbank in November after seeing more families in our community struggling to afford food, hygiene items and basic household goods. What started as a small response has grown into a trusted, culturally sensitive support hub for local families facing hardship, isolation or sudden crisis.
We provide culturally relevant food, fresh produce, baby essentials, toiletries and emergency support in a warm, dignified space. We meet people without judgement and offer care that reflects the culture and community we serve. Every week, we see the reality of hardship in SE8: parents skipping meals so their children can eat, neighbours quietly supporting each other, and families who simply need stability to get through a difficult time.
Running a foodbank comes with real, everyday costs. We cover fuel for supermarket pick‑ups, top up food when donations run low, buy hygiene items, maintain safe storage, pay for utilities, manage cleaning and waste disposal, and ensure safeguarding and volunteer support. These hidden costs are what keep the service running safely and consistently.
As we grow, we hope to offer hot food, culturally relevant meals and a Grow & Share scheme where families can grow herbs and vegetables together. We’re raising a year’s funding to keep shelves stocked, collect food safely and support local families with dignity and care.
We’re asking our community, friends and supporters to stand with us. Your donation, whether one‑off or monthly, helps us keep shelves stocked, collect food safely, and grow our work so no family in SE8 goes without support. Please give what you can and share our fundraiser so we can continue this vital work together.
