Aim
We are raising funds to produce a vinyl, and CD run of our recently recorded album of 9 original tracks, recorded live to 24 track tape.
The Band
King Dinosaur is a fun, exciting 5 piece band consisting of drums (Paul Bullock), double bass (Matt Taylor), piano (Jacob Kodicek), guitar (Alik Peters-Deacon) and vocals and trumpet (Ed Hart). We play high energy, original tunes to party and dance to in music venues and festival stages across the south west. Our gigs are raucous, joyous experiences where young and old alike lose themselves in the music and dancing. The songs have interesting, heart felt lyrics and there is lots of top class improvised instrumental work during the solos and throughout the songs. The music defies genre and the influences are as diverse as jazz, latin, mariachi, eastern european folk and swing. Melt that lot together, add a little spice, and you get us. Something we like to call 'Spaghetti Western Swing'.
The Album
The album has a working title of 'Walking, Dancing, Dying'. As well as being an allegory for life, these words are taken from the track we finish our live performances with 'Dead Man's Shoes'. These 9 original songs (written by Matt Taylor) were all recorded live in one day. Backing vocals were added as an overdub but everything else went down in one go, being performed as a group in the live room at Middle Farm Studios. Engineer Peter Miles recorded and mixed it all the old fashioned way straight onto 24 track tape on Sept 11th 2022. Procrastination turned out to be one of our favourites and you can hear the rough mastered version we will be using here. You can also hear fully live versions of 3 of these tunes from a gig at Calstock Village Hall in Dec 2019 on our previous live ep release - King Dinosaur Live, available for download from Bandcamp here. We started work on this new album in 2019 and have a massive thank you to say to Mal at Televista Studios in Calstock who has helped us enormously in getting these songs to the point they are at now.
We are extremely proud of this body of work and of the way it has been captured in the studio. We can't wait to get it out into the world. Due to the analogue nature of the recording techniques our ambition is to take the recordings through mastering and straight to vinyl to really make the most of the terrific sound. We also want to include the CD lovers out there too so are planning a hard format run of both. This will take up the bulk of the money we raise.
We need to recoup some of the recording costs to date and are also keen to pay for some professional promotion to maximise the potential for radio play and the chance to take this material to some great live stages over the next year or so.
Our members live across Cornwall and Plymouth and we rehearse and arrange our material on the wilds of Bodmin moor. We have all played in a huge range of other bands and some of our current and previous projects include Freshly Squeezed, Antimatador, The Blue Bottles, Oort, Kodiceck Collective, Company B, The Underbelly, Goonzion Quintet, Circus of Sound and many others.
