Aim

Helping to secure Kidwelly Post Office and a centre for the Foodbank and Community Fridge.

Thanks to funding, we have managed to buy The Kidwelly Post Office buildings.  The reasons we went for the post office are:

  • 1) ensure that Kidwelly didn't lose another vital service, and 2) to provide a permanent base for our Kidwelly Projects.

We couldn't find anywhere in the town that was suitable for us, and it also gave us the opportunity to save the Post Office because no other potential new owner was interested in running a post office.

For CETMA also, the reason we need the premises are for us to help and support the community with:

  • services and projects that we currently run
  • providing new services/projects
  • supporting more members of the public.

CETMA is a social enterprise, which is called a 'not for profit'. If we do make a surplus, then it has to be put back in to the organisation. This means that it enables us to provide extra services which we wouldn't normally be able to do.

Our plans for the premises include basing the following projects/services there:

  • Kidwelly Post Office (usual range of services)
  • Local shop
  • PBP Foodbank
  • Poverty Support
  • Kidwelly Community Fridge
  • Community support.

This new building also helps us to carry on the following:

  •  Online Centre Network. Helps people get online, and learn about using laptops and tablets.
  • It’s centrally located for PBP Foodbank which supports food poverty in Pembrey, Burry Port, Trimsaran, Pontiets, Ponhenri, Llangyndeyrn, Ferryside and Kidwelly.
  • An easily accessible meeting place, for local groups to meet.
  • A centre for Kidwelly Community Fridge.
  • We provide the community with clothes, baby bags, a kitchen equipment library and much more
  • A warm hub
  • Promoting the Welsh Language and culture
  • A place to run our popular Pop Kitchen activities.

We are currently moving through the process of taking on the Post Office and have building work planned, but we want to open as soon as we possibly can and there's still much work to do.  We will have to employ new staff, train people, buy new stock, and invest into the infrastructure so we're asking if the community would be able to help us.

Anything anyone can donate will help, and thank you for reading this.

Come and support us when we open!
