THE BIG IDEA
Our project will enhance children's lives through music. We are collaborating with 2 secondary schools in Nepal plus 2 secondary schools and 8 primary schools in the UK to create a brand new musical work, based on a Nepali folk story called "Monkey Boy".
The words and music are being written by the children with a little help from Shri Sriram (music) and Guy Wilson (words).
The students from Nepal will travel to the UK in March 2019. Here they will join UK students in rehearsals and perform the truly international concert in front of packed public audiences in Royal Hall, Harrogate.
WHY?
Do you know that we are really lucky in the UK. Our schools have a rich curriculum which includes sciences, art, literature and music.
In other areas of the world, such as Nepal, education has to focus on teaching the basics like English and Maths. Without this vital study, students probably won't get a job!
We can help though!
Since 2011 Harrogate Brigantes Rotary club have been delivering IT and literacy projects through a programme called "Changing Children's Lives in Nepal".
We have installed both IT Suites and solar power and then developed Literacy and Economic projects. The exam results demonstrate a significant improvement. We have helped 10 schools already, 7 of which are in the Panchomol Valley.
To make sure the improvements are sustainable we have followed up with school technical tournaments, microloans and upgrades.
Our IT and Literacy project has established excellent results in technical streams, however the students still don't have access to cultural programs in their schools.
That's why were doing Kids Aloud 2019.
We want to give UK children a way to share culture and at the same time - give Nepalese students a rich school life , not just one that gives them life's basics.
In the UK, Kids Aloud has a proven track record. Our 5 previous concerts have been held every two years since 2009 , with enormous support from the UK schools.
Kids Aloud 2019 is our most ambitious yet. It will bring two cultures together and give the children a creative cross-cultural experience like no other, and one that can potentially be life-changing.
