The Cause

Will Taylor was diagnosed with DMD in June 2014 at the age of 4. Will is now 16 years old.  The William Taylor Fund was set up to support Will to purchase items that will support his independence and quality of life.  The Fund is managed by Will's Dad Sam, and two independent trustees, who approve any expenditure to ensure that it meets these aims.

Will has just turned 16, and will soon start the process of learning to drive in an adapted vehicle.  Money from the William Taylor Fund will be used to support the costly adaptations that will be required for Will to drive independently.

In August 2025, Vicky and Rachel (owners of Kesters Country Lodges), Will’s Mum and Dad - Sue and Sam, and a group of friends, will attempt to complete a long distance Ironman triathlon called the IRON WILL along with Will's Mum and Dad and a group of friends.

The IRON WILL 2025 consists of a 12km/7.5 mile kayak or paddleboard; 80km/50mile mountain bike ride; and a 42.2km/26.2mile marathon run, all in the mountainous terrain of the Lake District.

Don't worry we will do the hard bit but would love it if you could support us by buying a ticket to win a 2 night stay.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disease that causes muscle weakness and wasting. Children born with DMD have a fault, known as a mutation, on their dystrophin gene. Genes are smaller sections of the body's DNA. They are the instructions that make our bodies work. For people with DMD, the fault on the gene means that they cannot produce dystrophin, which is a protein that protects muscles. Without dystrophin, muscles get damaged more easily and so muscle strength and function is weakened.

DMD almost always affect boys, and is typically diagnosed in childhood. There are around 2,500 patients in the UK and an estimated 300,000 worldwide. It is classified as a rare disease. Today there is no effective treatment or cure.
