Why are we crowdfunding?
The Club faced a near-devastating threat during the pandemic, but thanks to the dedication of a small group of volunteers and the support of Surrey Foundation, we have managed to persevere. A heartfelt thank you.
We pride ourselves on being financially self-sufficient and generate our income from sponsorship, match fees, membership, bar takings and social fund-raising events, such as our Sportsmen’s Dinner, end of season function, race night, quiz night and BBQs. This income usually enables us to cover our costs for the year but there are occasional significant capital investments that require a different approach.
Now, as we look ahead, we are seeking funding for critical developments. Kenley CC has invested nearly £40k in the past four years, channelling funds into essential upgrades such as a new batting cage, Flix wickets, improvements to the bar/pavilion, square enhancements, and overall ground improvements. While the majority of these projects received grant and sponsorship funding, the club contributed approximately 25% of the costs.
At present our basic training facilities are inadequate and need improving.
In order to take our club to the next level we have identified three initial projects:
- A two lane practice net facility.
Two lane astroturf practice facility that will provide a significant improvement in training potential whilst freeing up valuable space on the pitch, allowing increased participation. It will also enable existing players to further develop their potential and enhance the coaching we are able to offer.
- Upgrading our ground maintenance equipment & Instillation of a Non turf pitch.
Due to the number of competitive teams that we have, the pitches are being used almost every day of the week requiring them to be consistently and expertly prepared. This requires a variety of equipment and at present we are using aging machinery, in some cases over 50yrs old. A new wicket mower is necessary to replace significantly aged equipment. The non turf pitch will help us with the number of pitches needing to be prepared and will help the beginners to start playing. This will allow us to provide a better standard of both pitch and practice facilities.
Community impact
Our current initiative involves the installation of an non turf wicket and nets facilities on the grounds, aimed at accommodating the needs of our expanding membership at Kenley. This strategic enhancement will not only bolster our ties with local schools but also provide these facilities to them, contributing to the overall goal of increasing sports participation in the local area for girls and junior cricket helping create healthier more active children.
