Our aim is to provide essential machinery and equipment to make our club more accessible to the community.
PEBC is a village Bowls Club established in 1929 and has been at the heart of the community ever since. With approximately 150 members, 99 active bowlers ranging from Rhys at 15 to our oldest bowler John at 89. Our aim is to grow the club to 150 playing members, increasing our youth numbers and those visually impaired or have other disabilities.
The club is made up of volunteers and we would like you to meet Terry who is learning the ropes when it comes to looking after the green and was one of 25 members who helped to close the green in September in preparation for our new season in April 2026.
This is Rhys, Terry's grandson who joined us in May 2025 at one of our annual Open Day's. On his first day he even managed a coaching session from our local England Gold Medal winner Andrew Briden.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Our coaches need updated equipment to assist with our new initiatives for visually impaired and younger potential members organised for 2026.
We therefore need a green that is in the best condition and suitable for extra footfall. To do this we need to purchase additional machinery that our ageing green keepers can use and maintain.
Total cost £18,260. We have already been able to set aside £4,000, have a grant of £7,310 subject to us of raising a further £7,310 before the start of the season.

The items we are purchasing are
Bowls for new starters and juniors £1,220
Autoslit machine £8,370
Roller £9,030
The equipment will not only protect the long-term quality of the green but will also be the enabler for all planned additional activities. By reducing the strain on volunteers and maintaining a high-quality playing surface, we can confidently deliver more sessions, attract more players, and sustain growth for years to come.
Our club is a community hub and is used throughout the year. In the off season from October to March we run both members only events such as darts, cribbage, carpet bowls, table tennis, coffee mornings and craft events. In addition open events such as quizzes, bingo, stage acts and more. This year we have had the pleasure of Elvis, Tom Jones, Boy George and Neil Diamond, let alone a brief interlude from Marilyn Monroe.
In the summer we have regular visitors from the village who simply wander in to sit and watch the games.
We also hold two corporate events per annum with members from Ashridge Golf Club and Berkhamsted Golf Club in aid of our local Hospice, plus annual Gala's attracting teams from around the area.

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
