Target reached!
We will reach more people!
We will reach more people!
Many cannot afford healthy food and heat their homes and turn to us for social connections ,food and to stay warm.
Chabad Lubavitcch of Birmingham Campuses was established in 2013 to support the local student community mainly. Since the beginning of the Covid pandemic we have been made aware that of many in the community, specifically the elderly and young people, lack basic food and are lonely. We have focused on integrating the young in the elderly at our community centre. This gives young people the opportunity to interact meaningfully with each other and with eldely people, which gives young people a sense of meaning and alleviates the loneliness of both cohorts. Our visitors receive a freshly cooked, nutritious three course meal and are encouraged to partake in a variety of activities that we run.
We aim to improve peoples mental and physical wellbeing by encouraging them to participate in activities with their peers reducing their sense of isolation and loneliness. We provide a warm hub to ensure that people don't have to make the choice between heating their home and putting food on their table.
We are a Charity that is supported solely by charitable donations. We have faced massive rises in our costs over the past year. Our heating and lighting bill has tripled. The costs of the raw materials that we use to produce our meals has in some case quadrupled. This is directly impacting on our ability to operate.
To enable us to provide fresh meals for vulnerable young and elderly people as part of our Reach Out initiative.
To enable us to continue to run our weekly weekend meals and socials We have been running weekend meals and socials since 2013 and have focused on the Reach Out project (the integrating of the young and elderly) since March 2020. We are facing challenges due to the increased cost of the food.
To enable us to continue offer a warm hub.
We will use the extra funding to hep cover the increased cost of gas and electric.
