To keep our wheelchair-accessible buses on the road providing a vital lifeline for over 60s & people with disabilities in the Brecon area
Our Story: Keeping Brecon and surrounding areas Moving
Who We Are
We are a dedicated team including local volunteers and drivers who believe that getting older or living with a disability shouldn’t mean losing your independence. Based in the heart of our community, we provide a door-to-door, wheelchair-accessible transport service that acts as a vital bridge between our members and the world around them.
Our Vision
Our vision is simple: A community where no one is left stranded. In rural areas like ours, public transport can be limited, and for those with mobility challenges, it’s often impossible. We want to ensure that every resident over 60 and every person with a disability in Brecon, Crickhowell and surrounding areas can get to their doctor’s surgery, the supermarket, or a social lunch without stress or isolation.
The Journey So Far
You may have seen our newer buses out and about lately! We’ve had an incredible boost recently—thanks to an anonymous donor and the Percy Davies Trust, we have two new to us, wheelchair-accessible minibuses, to add to our existing accessible fleet. One is based in Crickhowell and the other in Brecon. These modern vehicles have transformed our reliability, but they have also highlighted the growing demand for our help.
Why We Need Your Help
While the buses are paid for, the "engine" of our service is fuelled by donations, the costs of diesel, specialised insurance, and operational overheads are rising.
We are a totally autonomous charity. Every penny raised will go directly towards:
-Fueling the fleet: Ensuring we can cover every mile requested by our members.
-Driver & Safety Support: Keeping our team on the road and our vehicles maintained to the highest safety standards.
Expanding our reach: Making sure that when the phone rings, we have the resources to say "yes" to every booking.
What Our Members Say
"I wouldn't be without Dial A Ride- I just couldn't go to Morrisons. I can be sad when I come out of the house, but the drivers and passengers cheer me up."- Brecon Dial-A-Ride
"Crickhowell Dial-A-Ride is a real lifeline, I can't leave the house without it"
"The bus is more than just transport, it's really helped me get out and about. I've now met my best friend"
The Challenge
Owning the vehicles is only half the battle. To actually get them on the road every morning, we have to cover soaring fuel prices, specialised insurance, and the logistical costs of coordinating a service that many of our neighbours rely on for their very survival.
Who We Support
Our service covers Brecon, Sennybridge, Crickhowell, Talgarth and surrounding areas. Anyone over 60 or with a disability of any kind can become a member. We provide a door to door service that enables people to keep their independence whatever their access needs are.
We can transport people from rural locations, in wheelchairs, with their walking aids and carers.
How You Can Help
We are raising funds to "future-proof" our service.
£5 pays for the fuel for a 15miles of local community pickups.
£15 pays for the fuel for a morning of local community pickups.
£30 helps go towards the specialist insurance required for our accessible fleet.
£50 contributes to the professional safety checks that keep our members safe, our 8 weekly maintenance costs are £750 .
Every donation, big or small, keeps us moving.
