SAVE THIS NEW BASE FOR NEW ARRIVALS
The Spital Hill Network ( partnership of burngreave community groups) opened the Ashram up again, to cater for a great need for easily accessible community space. It had been closed for many years and there are no other buildings in the area with a constantly open door , providing identity and sense of ownership.
HARD WORK FOR THOSE IN NEED OF THE BASICS
We cleaned. we painted and made it available as a safe place for the community to meet and share. We work with a group of recently arrived Sudanese refugees with emergency charity SOS4Sudan. Young men facing a life of exile and trauma after horrific experiences of war and hardship whilst fleeing .
New arrivals desperately need each other for the basics of food and shelter as well as sharing their unique experiences and to undertake language lessons & work shops in negotiating benefits, housing and the asylum system. It is a place where people can drop off good quality boots and clothes for the winter.
HELP FUND OUR WEEKLY COMMUNITY MEAL
There is a weekly free Community meal that has provided over a 1000 free meals since we opened in October. It is also a base for Environmental action (CZCN & charity Green City Action. and a meeting room for women's groups from East Africa as well as a space for English language learning (SAVTE). It is also a place where small local business can come to chat about improvements to their family businesses and connect with others in similar circumstances!
PAYING THE RENT WILL MAKE ALL THIS POSSIBLE
Please help us to extend the lease on these meeting rooms and facilities and help us to keep the building for this essential community benefit. This fund will help us to launch the campaign and raise funding to keep up this vital work and ensure the building remains in the community domain.
New arrivals to this country do not have a voice , or the necessary human support they need. This place provides them with the community they need. Please give us your support. Every penny raised will go the Spital hill Network to secure the premises for the next 6 months and allow us time to fund raise and make this much needed project sustainable for the future.
