Keep SHRUB going: Help us secure funding!
We did it
On 14th June 2022 we successfully raised £9,881 ( + est. £1081.50 Gift Aid ) with 182 supporters in 28 days

We need to raise £8000 in community match funding in order to secure £150,000 from the National Lottery!

by SHRUB Cooperative in Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom

New stretch target

The funding that we will acquire if we can raise £8000 will give us:

  • £149,986.00 total for 2 years for the Zero Waste Community Hub.
  • Enable us to employ one full time Community Hub Coordinator.
  • Enable us to employ one 0.8FTE Events and Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Give us a 20% contribution to core roles and our Bread Street rental costs.

It will also allow us to continue:

  • Operating on a tokens system in our Swapshop to help create a circular economy.
  • Giving things we can’t sell to other partners across the city such as SPACE, Fresh Start, St Cuthberts, and  various hostels.
  • Organising community events in our Zero Waste Hub and around the city.
  • Organising Freeshops so we can prevent unwanted items from going to landfill.
  • Educating our community and the wider Edinburgh community about behaviour change activities that can help combat the climate crisis.
  • Running our vegan cafe and community space.
  • Improving employability amongst our volunteers by training them in customer service, communications, governance and policy, barista work, swapshop pricing etc.
  • Ensuring members of our local community have access to food, some of whom don’t qualify for help elsewhere but are still experiencing food poverty.

National Emergencies Trust Local Action Fund

We’re taking part in the National Emergencies Trust Local Action Fund. Donations to our project will be matched by the fund up to the value of £250 per donation to help us overcome the effects of the pandemic.

Please note only one donation per supporter will be matched by the National Emergencies Trust Local Action Fund.

It has been a little bit doom-and-gloom here at Shrub lately as we have been trying to work out how to stay open despite recently losing our main funders.

However, we had some INCREDIBLE news that made us all do a little happy dance when we found out...

The National Lottery has agreed to give us their Community Led Grant for the Zero Waste Community Hub! One of the requirements however is that we must fundraise £8000 of 'match funding' in order to receive this grant from them.

We are fundraising for the Zero Waste Community Hub. Alongside a recent award from The National Lottery Community Fund, we hope to raise another £8,000 to make our project a reality. We are sure that with the support of our community, we will be able to achieve this!

With the support of this Crowdfunder we will be able to continue:

- making a circular economy accessible to those on lower incomes.

- redirecting textile waste away from foreign textile markets and ultimately landfill by partnering with hostels and other charitable organisations who can make use of the clothing we cannot sell.

- empowering our community to repair their clothing through workshops and normalising this as the first step before donating or throwing away clothing.

- educating our community on the importance of slow fashion.

- using our beautiful space at 22 Bread Street as our Zero Waste Hub.

- organising community events in our Zero Waste Hub and around the city.

- Organising Freeshops so we can prevent unwanted items from going to landfill.

- educating our community and the wider Edinburgh community about behaviour change activities that can help combat the climate crisis.

- running our vegan cafe and community space.

- improving employability amongst our volunteers by training them in customer service, communications, governance and policy, barista work, swapshop pricing etc.

- ensuring members of our local community have access to food, some of whom don’t qualify for help elsewhere but are still experiencing food poverty.

***PLEASE NOTE: You will be able to collect your prize at the end of our Crowdfunder campaign (predicted end date: 15/06/22). We will post an announcement to social media or send you an email when your packages are available to collect***
