A chance to win a one-of-a-kind, joyful & beautiful handmade framed embroidery, plus other prizes - and help save our refugee women's centre

This large, framed embroidery took one of our skilled refugee women artisans three months to embroider. Every stitch is done by hand with love and care by Syrian refugee Sawsan, who has signed her piece in thread in Arabic in the top corner like the work of art it is.
The colours are uplifting and the craftswomanship sublime. Even when we picked it up from the framers people were coming up to us in the shop to tell us how amazing it is!
At 55cm x 112cm, and fully embroidered from side to side, this intricate and valuable unique piece is worth over a thousand pounds.

Drawing on traditional embroidery motifs and Middle Eastern geometry, the Dasha cushion is an elegant addition to your sofa. Each cushion usually costs £120, as it takes our refugee artisans six weeks to complete, truly a labour of love.

Our final three winners will receive these beautiful hand-embroidered clutches, worth £45 each. Each one gives a refugee woman a dignified income, a supportive community, and a creative outlet for trauma.

Makani and our project Oshana are at risk — and we need your help. International cuts to refugee funding have hit hard, and we must raise £8,000 to keep our doors open and continue empowering refugee women through craft and community.
£8,000 will directly cover rent and running costs on our centre for six months, giving us time to put new long-term funding in place.
Enter our special prize draw for a chance to win a stunning one-of-a-kind embroidery — and help us keep our work going.
Makani's women’s centre is more than just a building – it is a safe space where Syrian and Palestinian women come together to heal, learn, and rebuild their lives through craft, art, and community. It is where we run our Oshana project providing economic empowerment through embroidery and crochet, but also so many more activities from theatre therapy to filmmaking to feminist parenting and women's rights workshops.
By entering this prize draw, you not only stand the chance of winning a unique, one-of-a-kind embroidered piece created by refugee women, but you also ensure that women who have lost everything can continue to access dignity, income, and hope.
Every ticket in the prize draw helps keep the centre alive – a place where resilience blossoms and futures are rewoven.
"I have three children. We had to leave our home in Deraa in Syria due to the war. But here in Lebanon, I got injured during the Port explosion in Beirut. I was rushed to the hospital with internal brain bleeding and many other broken ribs and bones. I lost my memory and lost my ability to speak. I couldn't recognise my children or any of the people around me for four months.
After that I started to regain my memory bit by bit. I got involved with Makani and started crocheting. When I go to the centre I feel like I am home to a place that belongs to me. I got so much better mentally, I changed and I started to be more positive and a better person for my children. The work makes me feel that I belong somewhere. I met other women, I made money through craft, I feel I am creating a better future. When I go there I feel that I am actually living."
