Save Matthews Yard in West Croydon

Aim

We announced our closure on 10th December but have struck a last minute deal with our landlord. Now we need your help to make it work.

After securing the support of the local community we were able to relocate to our new home in West Croydon. We signed a lease at the end of February 2020, a few days before the first COVID lockdown.

Since then we battled against COVID and the cost of living crisis which have had a profound impact on the hospitality industry nationwide. On a local level anti social behaviour, street drinking and the ever diminishing retail offer around us combined with the lack of progress on the Westfield development mean footfall has been lower than we expected and the move to West Croydon has been more challenging than we had hoped.

We recently announced plans to close the premises, having accrued arrears of more than £15k since moving, however many people asked us to run a crowd funder to raise funds which we were reluctant to do.

After productive discussions with the Arch Company today we have negotiated more time to pay. We have all fought so hard for so long, so can't throw the towel in now. We owe it to Croydon and to our supporters to do everything we can to survive and to allow you to help us do so.
