Donate a Pound to Go Underground

For years, local people in Bicester have been clear about one thing: London Road must stay connected.

We have been told there are two options on the table for the future of the level crossing:

- A motorised underpass, which keeps Bicester moving, protects access for emergency services, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers and properly future-proofs the town.

- An overbridge, which is cheaper and would mean longer journeys, poorer accessibility and real consequences for daily life in our community.

The problem is this.

We have been told that the underpass option is only viable if there is evidence of strong local backing, including so-called third-party contributions.

That is why we are launching Donate a Pound to Go Underground.

This is not about fundraising in the traditional sense.
It is about showing, clearly and unmistakably, that local people are united behind the underpass.

We are asking for just £1 from anyone who can afford it.
One pound represents one person who cares about getting this right.

Thousands of residents have already signed petitions calling for an underpass. This is another way to demonstrate that support, in a form that decision-makers in Whitehall cannot ignore.

Every £1 donated will be counted as a vote of confidence in the motorised underpass and presented to the Treasury as proof that this community is serious, organised and united.

And we want to be absolutely clear about this too:
If, despite this show of support, the Treasury still refuses to back the underpass and accept these funds, every penny raised will be donated to The Hummingbird Centre and Nais House.

If you believe Bicester deserves infrastructure that works for everyone,

If you believe decisions should be made with communities, not done to them,

And if you can spare just £1,

DISCLAIMERS:

- This platform charges a 2.4% fee plus 20p per transaction. This means that from a £1 donation, the campaign receives 77.6p. If you are able to help cover transaction fees, it would be hugely appreciated. A donation of £1.23 covers the full fee on a £1 donation, and £2 would cover the fees for roughly four other people.

- The money raised through this campaign will be donated to the Treasury as part of the Third Party Contributions required for a motorised underpass, if the Government chooses to proceed with that option. If the Treasury and East West Rail decide not to deliver an underpass despite the clear strength of local opinion in Bicester, all funds raised will instead be donated to two local charities, The Hummingbird Centre and Nais House. 

This project successfully funded on 25th February 2026
