Warm safe space: During colder periods offer extended hours for people to come to the community centre.
The Jewish population is 1.25% of Islington's borough (2,714 people declared themselves 'Jewish' in the 2021 census). Like any segment of society, there are some that are either in financial hardship and on benefits or universal credit and some that have a disability or medical condition. Currently, Islington has only one Jewish community centre and synagogue, namely Chabad Islington. As we are a Jewish community centre we have a capacity to reach some of the hardest to reach people which may not always feel comfortable (possibly due to religious reasons) or safe (possibly due to racial concerns) to seek assistance from more mainstream support services. Which has brought a need and repeated requests for our charity to assist people. Be it with a weekly food package, or simply a warm place to meet and chat over a cup of tea.
