Help Us Keep Our Youth and Community Centre Open
We need to raise £20,000 to allow us to continue serving our community.
WHY IS THE CENTRE CROWDFUNDING?
Since the centre re-opened in 2016 grants from official bodies and other funders have either remained the same or have been cut. Meanwhile costs have risen steadily and despite strenuous efforts to reduce costs, attract donations and host many fundraising events, there is a significant shortfall in the income needed to keep the centre going and put it on a secure financial footing for the future. At the current level of funding the centre will close by the end of the year.
WHY IT MATTERS
The centre is the home to many youth and community groups, offering activities to promote community inclusion and reduce social isolation, particularly for those under 21 and over 55. If the centre closes these groups and activities will need to find a new home or even cease to exist:
- Junior Youth Club (with hot meal)
- Senior Youth Club (with hot meal)
- Boxing Club
- Parent and Toddler Group
- Bridport Bandits (youth motorsport)
- SupaStrikers football
- Martial arts
- Table tennis
- Men wellness group
- U3a classes
- Steel band
- B Sharp
- Musical theatre
- Dorset Red choir
- Mountjoy School (life skills classes for children with learning disabilities)
- ASCape club for autistic youth & teens
- Space youth project (support for LGBT+, up to age 25)
- Health and well-being, including diabetes prevention and C-Card
- Cupboard Love food bank
- Age UK CST sessions
DID YOU KNOW?
Our trained youth workers also engage with young people out and about in the local area, promoting their safety and encouraging their involvement in the youth club. Recognizing that youth club attendance may not be for everyone, this outreach work plays a crucial role in keeping young people safe on the streets while making them aware of available support. The program has effectively increased youth club attendance, with over 80 young people transitioning from the streets to the club. It operates on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7 pm to 9 pm, patrolling popular gathering areas and ensuring that young people have a positive and safe experience, along with staying informed about opportunities for them in Bridport.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST....
These facilities will be lost:
- Sports hall / large hall
- Sound recording studio
- Music room
- Storage area for the Cupboard Love food bank
- Storage areas for the boxing club, steel band, parent and toddler group
- Meeting spaces with kitchen and cooking facilities
This is why it’s important to the community to keep the centre open.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
This is the largest campaign we have ever launched and we are asking for your help.
The money raised will help pay for the activities offered in our youth clubs and other core costs such as cleaning, energy and repair bills. It will also help maintain the centre for the 600+ visits each week.
Any donation is welcome, however small!
Please help keep our community centre open for the community and share this as widely as you can.
Thank you from us all.
