PROJECT_K-Women: Celebrating Korean Femail Artists
We are launching this crowdfunding to bring to life our "K-Women: Celebrating Korean Female Artists", an exhibition held in collaboration with Kingston Museum and supported using public funding by Arts Council England. This exhibition spotlights the powerful narratives of Korean female artists. Set in the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames – home to one of Europe’s largest Korean communities –, the exhibition explores themes of displacement, settlement, and identity through diverse artistic mediums, including ceramics, sculptures, photographs, videos, and paintings.
As a four-part journey, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through cultural adaption, migration, and self-discovery, presenting the voices of Korean female artists and local Kingston women. It offers a platform for dialogue, encouraging visitors to explore themes of identity, resilience, and heritage. Each artwork is a poignant reflection of personal and collective stories, inviting the audience to connect with the emotional landscapes of the artists.
Our programmes include workshops and events tailored for adults, as well as children and families, enhancing community engagement and deepening understanding of the exhibition’s themes.
Key events include:
- <Lives in colour: Pioneering women in colour history> by Dr Alexandra Loske
- <Art Performance, ‘Heterogeneous Aesthetics’> by Suyoung Park
- <Artist Talk> by Sunnu Rebecca Choi
- <The Past and Present in Your Hands> by Betty Kim
- <Whimsical Family Tree> by Jeongyeon Kim
- <Draw My Cloud!> by Soobin Lee
These events aim to foster innovative dialogue between the local community and contemporary Korean art, celebrating the strengths of women’s voices in art and culture.
ABOUT US
4482 is an intercultural non-profit organization founded by Korean artists in London to increase awareness of UK-based Korean artists and their work, influenced by both their cultural heritage and UK art education. Initially established in 2007 to bridge the gap for Korean artists facing limited opportunities in the UK, we have since collaborated with over 300 Korean artists. Supported by institutions like the Korean Cultural Centre UK and the Korean Education Foundation, we contribute to global art awareness through artist talks, exhibitions, and seminars. Our team consists of volunteers and curators from diverse backgrounds, primarily based in London.
