Our Organisation

The Junction Sports & Leisure Centre is at the very heart of our local community, continuing to deliver quality facilities and services for all your health and fitness needs. 

So whether it's using the Swimming Pool, the superbly equipped Gymnasium, Kidz Kingdom soft play area, Fitness Classes, Tennis Courts, Sports Hall, or simply relaxing with a cup of coffee in our Waterside Coffee Shop, we have all these amazing facilities under one roof.

We understand that public leisure plays a vital role in the health and wellbeing of local communities , by providing accessible opportunities to get active. In addition, wellbeing is a crucial foundation that enables people to develop in all areas of their lives. Fitness and exercise are part of that, but so too is having a place to belong. 

At The Junction we are not just about leisure, we are here to support our community as best as we can - in mind and body.

Our Swimming Pool

At the Junction we have modernized swimming, offering both traditional lessons and lanes style as well as a new proposition where the pool is an activity space in the heart of the community appealing to young people with party packages and inflatables alongside group workout classes such as Aqua Pilates, Aqua Fit and Aqua Circuits, attended by 80% older female participants.

4,750 individuals use our pool each week with 4-8 year old's and 60+ years accounting for 44% of total users.

Alan has been using the Swimming Pool here at the Junction Sports & Leisure Centre for over 30 years. "I enjoy keeping fit and know how good it is for me physically and mentally. I also come here to meet friends making sure i keep a social life. The location is also perfect as its situated nice and local, only a short cycle or walk away so I'm here often and it’s been a vital part of my lifestyle for 3 decades now."

Swimming lessons are being driven by young people with 93% of attendees 15 or under.

The project you are Funding

We have identified potential energy savings, a reduction in our carbon footprint , the ability to extend the life of the pool building and structure, reduce condensation and wear & tear, JUST by purchasing a pool cover.

A pool cover will:

prevent and reduce the evaporation on the pool water

reduce the heat losses to the surrounding areas 

reduce the amount of chemicals that we us

prevent condensation damage to the building structure

allow us to shut the expensive air handling system down at night

allow savings on the electrical cost

extend the life of the air handling system

Such energy efficient measures will:

reduce overheads (which have increased across the charity by 20% as a direct result of the cost-of-living crisis)

reduce our carbon footprint.

By installing a pool cover, our estimated energy savings could be £10,000+ per year.

Maintaining the building  and reducing overheads will both contribute significantly to the long term sustainability of this community building and keep the pool open for participative activity. According to Sport England, swimming offers huge potential for supporting people to become more active. 

Regular Junction swimmer, Lesley comments; "I use the pool because it’s convenient to where I live and its very affordable. The Pool is clean and warm, I use it for general public swim sessions and Aqua Fit classes. It helps me with my mental health to stay focused and have a structure by getting up in the mornings."
