Drift FM follows a group of misfits finding common ground in their collective endeavor to keep their beloved community radio station afloat.
Hi all!
I've been working in the industry for seven years and am very excited to announce my first short film Drift FM, is moving into production throughout the next two months. It takes a lot to get a film off the ground, so I am reaching out to the community in the hopes of fundraising for the production. The money raised will go towards covering travel expenses for cast and crew, buying and making props, hiring locations and refreshments such as food. This is my biggest short film yet so any help would be appreciated!
The film is a comedy following the members of Drift FM, a small community radio station that has just had a big opportunity. Drift FM has only ever operated online, but it has the chance to go FM; a move that’ll hopefully give Drift a chance to increase their listenership. However, such a transition may be too challenging for the underfunded station. The film follows the crew attempting to raise the final aerial before their big launch, but after a series of unfortunate events, the future of the station hangs in the balance.
This story is very loosely based on my personal experiences of being part of community radio from my childhood into my teenage years. What struck me most of all about the experience was the sense of community that we had at the station. People from all walks of life, all different industries and spheres of experience. But we all worked together with collective passion for a project that was a safe space; an outlet for many of us to explore our passion for music and personal interests. I want to show people from outside of Cornwall what a tight knit community we are, but also the struggles we face being in such a remote part of the country with minimal resources.
This film is a love letter to the community of Penzance and to my teenage years here in Cornwall. Achieving our budget goal would mean the world to us as a group of young, passionate filmmakers and would help ensure that we are equipped to deal with any issues that are thrown in our direction. All contributors will be also thanked with our rewards scheme and credited in the film. Please feel free to share this Crowdfunder if you would like to help us out even more! Thanks for your support!
