Why are we fundraising ?

The Members of the Royal British Legion (Newquay) Club Ltd, Newquay are determined to reopen their recently closed Club and once again, with a new Committee, provide a focal point, to provide services to Veterans, Serving personnel and all their dependents.

We are a new Committee of 12 persons for the Royal British Legion (Newquay) Ltd, who have asserted control of the Club (to be ratified by the High Court in proceedings at Bristol High Court (Administrative) after the previous Committee resigned on 31st August 2023 and have left the Club in plight.

Plus, in addition, supporting all aspects of front line Services, that have given loyal service to the Crown. This would also provide a shelter for other members of the community and bring comradeship, friendship and support to all that wish to visit the Club.

With a 50 year lease remaining, the reason to close the Club was considered by many, as an ill advised situation we found ourselves in.

Therefore, we need to now approach the High Court for a Judicial Review against the Financial Conduct Authority, to prevent Cornwall Council obtaining the Club building, when the 50 years remaining lease, can be utilised to it's full potential.

What we need please:

Donations please from people of goodwill and all Veterans and all good people who serve our Country, the Members and the wider community, to help us with legal costs, to get our 50 years to run lease, Royal British Legion Club, back through the Courts, so that we can then support, with a building facelift and enhanced facilities, the bespoke services, at our Trevena Terrace RBL Club, Newquay, Cornwall, for all those who serve our country.

The legal donation you give us please, is to go directly and ONLY to fund our Judicial Review that we have commenced in the Bristol High Court to get our Club back.

Once we get our Club back, benefits for the community will be Live Entertainment, Bingo, Sunday Funday, Quiz Nights, Dance Classes, Café, Children Parties, and a suitable large Venue for events.

We have a 50 year lease on the land from Cornwall Council and we shall once again provide a Club for the future.

There are many loyal Club Members waiting in the wings with a vision and aspirations to once again serve our community in many ways.

OUR VISION

  • Our Club becomes a hub for all persons who have done, or are, or will give service to our Country and Community.
  • We shall have a dedicated needs facilitator, so that we can act with velocity as a “gateway” for any Veteran in need.
  • We shall become an inclusive Club to not just military services Veterans, but we shall also reach out to Emergency Services and healthcare professionals from all sectors where persons serving within them, have similar risks and experiences as military Veterans and we shall respect and invite in, all those that serve the community in general.
  • We shall positively transform Membership numbers to levels previously seen.
  • We shall welcome with bespoke event and services, four categories of persons:
  • 1. Young persons considering service to our country.
  • 2  Serving military (and other services)
  • 3. Just leaving the military (a hard time of transition to civvy street)
  • 4. Veterans whom we must respect, because without them we would not have a free and open society for all.1698705552_679712bb-8da2-4e29-b70a-ee234fd593ed.jpeg

FUTURE REVENUE STREAMS

We have 4 new revenue streams above the normal Bar and Events Revenue which shall guarantee future viability. These are:

  • 1. A once a week music or entertainment scheduled event, specifically targeted and open to the general public, who also get to see and enjoy the Club. A potentially significant revenue opportunity on a weekly basis.
  • 2. A Mental Health Charity (externally funded through trusts etc and contributing to overheads) to be located within the Club, to provide bespoke mental health services and therapies, (walking, talking and sea therapies) free at the point of delivery, to all service personnel, past or present. We all know that service to our country can change people and civvy street can be a struggle, after seeing horror on the battlefield. It is our duty to help in a safe environment and we have a team of 3 ready to go.
  • 3. Bespoke programs for Veterans and Cornwall homeless, revolving around our kitchen facilities, again externally funded (contributing to overheads) and free at the point of delivery. Working with guidance from a very successful homeless south west Charity, we shall play our part in the Community.
  • 4. Veteran R&R weeks (5 families per week) from all over the UK, who will come to the fabulous Newquay and use our Club, as their hub for the week (starting their day with a hearty breakfast at the Club) staying at 3 selected levels/types of Accommodation in and around Newquay and all packaged up for them into a week, focusing on sea and surf and adventure activities of Newquay, professionally provided by selected partners, where all the activities commence from the perfectly located Club, just meters from the sea. An exceptionally exciting program for all Veterans of the UK, providing a net contribution to overhead. Each week shall be directly marketed to particular military units (through their Veteran Associations) so each family that week, will all have a history revolving around a Member of their family, from military service with that particular unit. An exceptionally exciting opportunity for the future of our Club.

THE FACTS OF WHAT WE ARE LEGALLY CHALLENGING ON BEHALF OF ALL VETERANS

We are confident, from a communication to us, from  a High Court Judge that looked at this matter, on the filed papers on 23rd June 2023 that there is merit in our case.

We have 15 Grounds of Judicial Review and we only need to win on one.

For the chronology of the legal case and the issues at play please see our Facebook site.

THE FUTURE

We do have exceptionally exciting plans of a refurbishment of our Club and some of the stuff that we already know has been taken out of the building, needs replacing and also specific service programmes to roll out, that you may consider at that time, to leave your donation in ?

THANKYOU

In the meantime thankyou so much for your help.

Thankyou for being a great citizen and on the side of right….

We look forward to hosting in Newquay as soon as we get our RBL Club back with your help.
